General Internal Medicine Unit NurseThe General Internal Medicine unit is a 16-bed one-pod intermediate care medical oncology unit providing care to adult and geriatric patients ranging in age from 18 –95. Patients treated on P4A include those with solid tumor cancers, such as colorectal, gastrointestinal, and lung cancer who are on a spectrum of cancer care from pre-diagnosis to end of life. Patients are provided treatment for side effects and complications of their cancer care, as well as supportive care. Patients are typically admitted to the unit to manage effects of cancer treatment agents including infection, significant GI complications, cardiac complications, renal failure, hypotension, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. Nursing interventions are focused on management of symptoms and side effects, as well as evaluation of patients' safety needs for disposition planning.
