Our organization is in search of a clinician-scientist specializing in outpatient wound care to become a part of the Department of Surgery. This unique role encompasses 60% clinical responsibilities and 40% research involvement.
This position allows for the integration of direct patient care for those with intricate wounds alongside an active research agenda that focuses on trauma, wound healing, surgical outcomes, and related fields. Clinical duties will be performed at our facility's Episcopal Campus and the associated hospital, while the research aspect will be conducted within the Department of Surgery.
The Opportunity
Clinical – 60%
Deliver thorough outpatient care for individuals suffering from both acute and chronic wounds, which may include diabetic, venous, arterial, pressure, surgical, and traumatic injuries. Responsibilities include:

• Conducting advanced wound assessments and treatments
• Performing debridement, utilizing negative pressure wound therapy, advanced dressings, and biologic treatments
• Collaborating with specialists in vascular surgery, plastic surgery, infectious disease, endocrinology, and other fields
• Educating patients and staff on wound prevention and management strategies
  

Research – 40%
You will have the chance to establish your own research agenda while also contributing to the broader academic goals of the Department of Surgery. Areas of focus may include:

• Trauma and surgical outcomes
• Wound healing and management of chronic wounds
• Lymphedema and peripheral vascular conditions
• Trauma, substance use, recovery, and pain management
• Clinical and translational research across various surgical specialties
  

This position also acts as a faculty liaison for trauma research, aiding in the coordination and documentation of trauma research activities across the department to meet Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) requirements. You will collaborate closely with research coordinators, surgical faculty, and trainees to develop studies, support publications and grants, and enhance research participation.

What We Seek

• DPT or an equivalent terminal clinical doctorate with Pennsylvania licensure or eligibility
• Extensive experience in outpatient wound care and advanced wound management
• Proven research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications and experience as a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on funded research
• Experience in mentoring students, residents, fellows, or other trainees in research and academic writing
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  

Preferred Qualifications : Certification in wound care (CWS or equivalent); experience in academic faculty roles; research expertise in trauma, wound healing, surgical outcomes, or related fields; familiarity with trauma-center verification or PTSF/ACS standards; and a history of securing research funding or professional leadership roles.
