Neurosurgery Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) Fairfax, VA, United States – Part time (PRN) at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Job Description Inova Neurosurgery is looking for a dedicated PRN Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Physician Assistant (NP/PA) to join the team at the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. The role supports the neurosurgical service with daily rounds and progress notes, emergency room and inpatient consults, admissions, discharges, and ordering and interpreting labs and radiologic studies. Additionally, the APP will field phone calls from inpatient nurses, coordinate multidisciplinary care, provide patient education, perform procedures within scope of practice such as EVD and ICP monitor placement, and may assist in the OR as service needs permit. Responsibilities Responsible for all aspects of the service, including daily rounds and progress notes. Emergency room and inpatient consults, admissions, and discharges. Ordering and interpreting labs and radiologic studies. Fielding phone calls from inpatient nurses. Multidisciplinary care coordination and patient education. Perform procedures within scope of practice, including EVD and ICP monitor placement. Opportunity for first‑assisting in the OR as service needs permit. Work directly with neurosurgeons. Requirements Work schedule: PRN – 12 hour shifts; day/night/weekends. Education: Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice, or graduate of a post‑masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants certification. Experience: No experience required. Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start. Licensure: Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License (depending on state of primary residence) and a license or eligibility for nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Virginia, plus a signed Practice Agreement and Scope of Practice/Protocol with supervising physician, and a Drug Enforcement Administration license if prescribing controlled substances. Payer Credentialing: Ability to complete credentialing process by third‑party payors and enroll as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payer. Medical Staff Credentialing: Completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges.
