Our services span from initial planning and investment, through start-up and operations.Project OverviewBechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world's largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project. This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Some days may require reporting and working from an in-town Richland Office. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work night shift (5:30 pm to 4:00 am) and weekends as needed.Job SummaryAssigned to the Construction organization as a Survey Technician (ST), responsible for providing field and office support as required to the construction survey team. The ST reports directly to the Survey Engineer/Party Chief (PC). The ST interprets design drawings and specifications to determine associated commodities and equipment locations and provides support to his/her assigned field survey team in support of the civil, structural, mechanical, and piping installations in the work area.Major ResponsibilitiesProvide Construction Survey support to the PC and Project Survey ManagerSupport the survey team's implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs.Assist the PC with the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job specifications and appropriate methods of performing survey activities.Perform duties of a Rod Person and/or Instrument Person on a direct-hire survey crew; operates the survey instrument(s), rod, staff, GNSS rover, and other survey implements as required in accordance with Bechtel survey procedures.Perform other duties as required in support of construction layout, laser scanning or other survey activities, including substituting for the PC during his/her absence.Ensure that all survey equipment is in good working order and that instruments are properly transported.Assist the PC in providing support to both Field Engineering and Field SupervisionAssist the PC to develop and maintain survey data.Performs Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments.Supports the administration of the survey work request program.Assist the PC provide Civil project completion documentation including "As-Built" recordsAssist in performing verifications of subcontract survey work.Education and Experience RequirementsEngineering/Technical degree and at least 1-2 years' experience in heavy construction/industrial surveying, with modern instruments and software or, in lieu of a degree, 5-6 years of directly related experience.Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now or in the future.Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.Required Knowledge and SkillsBASIC QUALIFICATIONSMulti-Disciplined Survey experienceKnowledge of construction survey principlesDemonstrated ability to always maintain a safe work ethic and work environment.Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, contractors, and survey functional management.Self-starter, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work on multiple work fronts, with excellent problem-solving ability.Displays effective communications skills crucial to understanding instructions and plans in a clear and concise manner.Demonstrated experience with Total Stations, Levels & GNSS survey systems, and field software.Knowledge of data downloadingMust have experience working on multiple work fronts, working under time constraints, and must be adaptable to changing conditions.PREFERRED SKILLS:Prior DOE, NS&E GBU experience a plus.CAD literate, experience w/CAD software a plus.Experience with 3D Laser Scanning hardware and software a plusExperience with Metrology field & office activities a plus.Experience with earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, and piping, etc. installation layout and verification a plusTotal Rewards/BenefitsFor decades, Bechtel has worked to inspire the next generation of employees and beyond!
