Mammography Technician - Radiology - Full Time/Evenings

Job Objective Under the direct supervision of the Radiology Director and Lead Mammographer, the Mammography Technologist performs a wide variety of mammographic procedures and complex duties requiring a high degree of accuracy with latitude for independent initiative and judgement. Performs mandated quality testing, operates equipment safety and utilizes technical expertise to produce high quality images. Exercise professional judgement and upholds medical ethics and strict patient confidentiality. Complies with all regulations pertaining to mammography (MQSA/ACR). Promotes, follows and adheres to the mission and values set for the by AVMC. Delivers qua103lity customer services which meets or exceeds expectations to patients, physicians, coworkers and the public. Duties and Responsibilities Ability to be on your feet 95% of the time and physically able to position patients. Frequent lifting, bending, stooping, walking or standing. Repetitive motion. Prepares room, equipment and medical supplies for exams and procedures. Courteously greet, identify and introduce yourself to the patients and escort them to and from the exam room. Assists patient in completing mammography questionnaires, offers patient education. Prepares patient for exam, discusses and explains procedure to patient. Performs screening and diagnostic mammography images according to clinical protocols. Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting comfort and patient ability. Using immobilization when necessary. Safely operates mammographic equipment and other medical devices as appropriate. Performs required maintenance, trouble shooting and obtains service as necessary. Selects appropriate exposure factors in accordance with ALARA. Evaluates mammography images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide mammography services to all age groups served. Provides patient education on procedures according to age-specific needs. Facilitates patient’s cooperation and alleviates anxiety by addressing concerns. Verifies appropriate procedure to be performed by checking physician’s orders, outpatient prescriptions, and prior reports. Contacts physicians with discrepancies. Demonstrates complete understanding of the contrast agents’ applicable studies. Prepares and sets up medical supplies using aseptic techniques as appropriate. Assists with procedures requiring knowledge of J wire placement, needle biopsies and wire placement. Performs specimen imaging as needed. Performs the quality control functions related to mammography. Ensures patient information is accurately input into departmental computer system. Arrives, selects current account and completes patients for the appropriate procedure, as directed in EHR. Provides timely, responsive, expert services to customers in a positive friendly manner, to include patient, physicians, and other fellow employees. Informs patients and those accompanying them when delays exist and how they are being addressed. Promotes patient focused care throughout daily activities. Maintains safe radiation levels at all times to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. Ability to work in different areas and be flexible in meeting the staffing requirements of the department. Performs basic radiography as necessary. Ability to learn required computer skills within orientation period and maintains competency. Non-Essential Duties Other duties as requested. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge Excellent knowledge of mammography, sterile technique and basic patient monitoring. Understands supplies used for core biopsy, localizations and other related procedures. Knowledge of current FDA and State regulations regarding MQSA. Knowledge of quality control and troubleshooting of equipment. Knowledge of Safe Patient Handling. Skills Clear and concise communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a team to accomplish specific goals and objectives. High attention to detail. Abilities Liaison between radiologists, ordering physicians/surgeons and patients for presurgical mammography procedures. Function under pressure. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clinicians and other health team professionals. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Work often performed under demanding, emotional and physical conditions. Accepts additional workload during times of unexpected circumstances (e.g., high activity, high census and sudden emergencies). Radiation exposure. Requirements Education and Experience Education Graduation from Accredited Radiologic Technology Program (JCERT preferred). AA Degree or higher strongly preferred. Experience Minimum two years of experience in a diagnostic mammography setting to include procedural mammography. Current active mammographer status. Minimum two years of experience of diagnostic radiography. EHR and PACS experience preferred. Required Licensure and/or Certifications Current California Registered Technologist (CRT) in Radiologic Technology, Fluoroscopy and Mammography. Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography and Mammography. Possess and maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers. Venipuncture preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr
