Evidence Intake Technician

Ohio Department of Public Safety – Ohio State Highway Patrol Location: 1583 Alum Creek Drive, Columbus, OH 43209 Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; may include after-hours calls. Perks and Benefits Multiple pay increases over the first years of service Free parking Responsibilities Process, examine, and preserve all evidence and property submissions collected from crime scenes or hazardous situations and submitted to the laboratory by internal and/or external law‑enforcement officers to aid in criminal prosecutions. Examine evidence in accordance with OSHP Policies & Procedures guided by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), Ohio Department of Health, internal controls, and laboratory best practices to ensure integrity and safety of evidence handling. Analyze evidence receipt forms for missing key information; ensure all evidence and property is properly stored, warehoused, and packaged. Oversee evidence management in the laboratory information management system. Examine, verify, and validate requests for destruction of evidence and property. Qualifications Formal education in arithmetic, including calculating fractions, decimals, and percentages, and proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English. At least 12 months of experience working in a forensic laboratory, biology, medical office laboratory, chemistry laboratory, law‑enforcement agency, or legal environment. At least 6 months of training or experience in inventory control (receiving, storing, and dispensing materials). Or equivalent minimum class qualifications as noted above.
