Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Overview We are a busy, small animal clinic in Farmington, New Mexico with 3 veterinarians on staff with the capacity for 2 or 3 more. Besides dogs and cats, we also see exotics, reptiles, and birds. We pride ourselves on excellent veterinary care and relationships with our clients. We strive to educate our clients and believe a proactive preventive approach is best for our patients' health. Our team is compassionate, personable, dedicated, and works well together. Our doctors strive to find answers and do what is best for the patient. We encourage an atmosphere of mentorship and teamwork where practitioner growth is at the forefront. Responsibilities Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories Perform physical exams Create treatment plans Diagnostics Dentistry services Observe, assist or perform surgical procedures Medical management of patients Practice communication skills with medical team, support staff, and clients Externship Details Most externship experiences range at the clinic from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships are available to veterinary students of all class years. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
