Job Overview The Facilities Division of History Colorado manages, maintains, and strategically plans all state facilities. The Deputy Director of Facilities is an operational leader responsible for implementation, management, and coordination of facilities operations and capital project delivery across assigned sites within History Colorado’s statewide portfolio. Responsibilities Lead day‑to‑day facilities operations across assigned sites, ensuring safety, functionality, and alignment with organizational needs and division standards. Determine operational priorities and resource allocation, responding to operational issues impacting building performance. Implement and manage capital construction and controlled maintenance projects, overseeing scope, schedule, budget, and coordination with architects, engineers, and contractors. Develop and execute preventative, predictive, and deferred maintenance programs to support asset longevity and operational efficiency. Demonstrate professionalism and establish expectations for staff through effective communication, accountability, and customer service. Manage operational budgets, support capital budgets, track expenditures, and adjust allocations in compliance with fiscal policies. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support operations and project implementation, including facility support for programs and events. Ensure alignment with agency‑wide safety, security, and emergency preparedness efforts, implementing protocols and evaluating risks. Provide leadership and direction to facilities staff, directly or indirectly supervising Facilities Specialists and other personnel; responsible for hiring, performance management, and disciplinary recommendations. Minimum Qualifications Full‑time professional experience in facilities management, building operations, and capital project delivery (exact number of years indicated in posting). Independent operational leadership and direct supervision experience with accountability, coaching, and performance management. Experience overseeing capital construction, controlled maintenance projects, and managing operational budgets. Experience developing and executing preventative, predictive, and deferred maintenance programs. Working knowledge of regulatory standards and state compliance requirements, including Colorado fiscal rules and Office of the State Architect State Buildings Program requirements. Preferred Qualifications Track record of transitioning facilities operations from reactive to strategic partnership. Advanced leadership and coaching skills, cultivating leadership development among facilities personnel. Experience collaborating on long‑term capital planning, statewide facilities strategy, and space planning initiatives. Background in operational implementation of major infrastructure improvements, deferred maintenance work, and large‑scale initiatives. Independent tactical decision‑making regarding issue escalation, staffing coordination, vendor management, and service delivery optimization. Cross‑functional collaboration experience ensuring buildings support staff, visitors, and specialized programming. Hands‑on experience developing and integrating emergency preparedness, safety protocols, and compliance standards into daily operations.
