Substation Engineering Lead

Substation Engineering Lead – Pleasanton, CA In this role, you will work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Responsibilities Oversee design of multiple Electrical Substations projects – includes execution/detailed design projects and project development/scoping, creating construction drawing packages, engineering calculations, and developing bills of materials (≈50% of time). Perform QA/QC on substation design packages including general arrangement, electrical layout, equipment plans, elevation and section views, below-grade drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring packages (≈10% of time). Support development of engineering resources locally and internationally through overseeing project work (≈10% of time). Manage engineering team including bi‑weekly one‑on‑ones, timesheet reviews, process guidance, and performance reviews (≈10% of time). Coordinate project work with K&A project manager, client project teams, engineering management, and junior engineers (≈5% of time). Maintain and develop client relationships through communication of project status, updates, and design questions/issues (≈5% of time). Attend on‑site meetings as required to support project progression, development projects, and RFPs (≈5% of time). Assemble proposals and cost estimates for new substation design projects (≈5% of time). Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited university. 15+ years of professional experience within substation design for electrical utilities. Past project experience working with PG&E on bidding, scoping, and executing engineering consulting projects. Proven experience in substation design for both physical electrical and protection & control packages with a fundamental understanding of all parallel interfaces, including civil/structural, testing and commissioning, construction, etc. PE license preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bluebeam, and WinIGS preferred.
