Locum MD (Medical Doctor), DO (Osteopathic Doctor) Cardiothoracic Surgery

Description

This role is ideal for an Associate-level surgeon looking to deliver high-quality surgical care within the medical practice industry while maintaining flexibility in a locum tenens engagement.

In this role, you will provide comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical services, including pre-operative evaluation, surgical intervention, and post-operative management for patients with cardiac and thoracic conditions. You will work closely with cardiologists, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Perform cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair and replacement, and thoracic surgeries
• Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments and develop individualized surgical treatment plans
• Provide comprehensive post-operative care and monitor patient recovery progress
• Collaborate with cardiology, anesthesia, and nursing teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
• Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and clinical decision-making
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical records and documentation
• Adhere to hospital protocols, clinical guidelines, and patient safety standards
• Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, procedures, and outcomes
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and peer review processes
• Respond promptly to urgent and emergency cardiothoracic surgical needs

Requirements

• Valid MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
• Completed residency and fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Active, unrestricted medical license in the State of Nevada, or eligibility to obtain one
• Board certification or board eligibility in Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Current DEA registration and CPR/ACLS certification
• Strong clinical judgment, technical surgical proficiency, and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse healthcare teams
• Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous professional development
• Prior locum tenens or contract experience is preferred
• Ability to adapt quickly to new clinical environments and workflows

Schedule: 24-hour call coverage, specific dates

Daily Volume: 5 patients

EMR: MediTech

Must be board-certified or board-eligible

ACLS and BLS required
