Welding Lab Assistant

York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Through maximizing student success, the College seeks to contribute to the economic growth and development of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties and of the State. The Welding Lab Assistants perform the following functions:

• Laboratory Set Up: Works with faculty and other part-time lab staff to ensure that laboratory activities are set up properly each week. Identifies potential conflicts or hazards and works with faculty or the department chair to resolve. Provides support for special laboratory projects or development of new materials.
• Inventory Control: Monitors inventory and maintains adequate supplies of all lab materials. Notifies the department chair and lab coordinator when supplies are low or special orders need to be placed.
• Chemical Safety: Monitors waste production and notifies the department chair and lab coordinator if waste removal is needed. Maintains all safety records.

High School Diploma or equivalent. Laboratory experience is preferred.

• Knowledge of basic laboratory skills and safety procedures.
• Ability to keep highly organized records and monitor laboratory inventory.
• Possession of a collaborative nature with demonstrated problem solving, communication, and critical thinking skills.
• Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
• Ability to work evenings as needed.
