Program Director

Responsible for overseeing the delivery of a broad range of programs within a designated Club; such as Education, Social Recreation, Character & Leadership, and Physical Education. Plan, develop, oversee implementation and supervise programs and program staff.

Plan and oversee the administration of designated Clubhouse programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes:

• Establish Clubhouse program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
• Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
• Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
• Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members.

Establish and maintain Clubhouse program goals and settings that insure the health and safety of members. Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program; they ensure program areas are safe, well-ventilated and well lit; and club equipment is maintained in good working condition. Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity. Control Clubhouse program and activity expenditures within approved budget.

• Allocate and monitor work assigned to program staff and volunteers, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal. Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned staff and volunteers.
• Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including programs, activities and events conducted. Breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements, and any problems and/or issues.
• Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers.

Increase visibility of Club programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers and media releases.

May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Youth of the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary. May be required to drive Club van periodically. May consult with parents concerning member and branch issues. May handle deposits and banking transactions.

Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel. Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member's parents and other to assist in resolving problems.

• Four year degree in related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of two years work experience in a Boys or Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer operations, including email, data entry, and internet applications.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, patience, and relationship-building skills.
• Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics, manage behavior, and maintain structure with warmth and consistency.
• Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
• Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (willing to obtain)
• Must pass two forms of background checks
• Willingness to learn BGCA programs, trauma-informed practices, and positive youth development strategies.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods while supervising youth and program activities. Ability to lift, carry, and move supplies, equipment, and materials weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance. Ability to actively participate in and supervise recreational, educational, and physical activities both indoors and outdoors. Ability to maintain visual and auditory awareness of multiple participants and activities simultaneously to ensure safety and program effectiveness. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication. Ability to sit for extended periods while performing administrative duties, preparing reports, and working on a computer. Ability to travel between program sites, schools, community locations, and special events as needed. Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and maintain a valid driver's license if driving Club vehicles is required. Work may include exposure to varying weather conditions, noise levels, and active youth-centered environments. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and special events.
