Responsible for management of shift operations employees to ensure safe, collaborative and high-quality performance and achievement of production and recovery goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Become a technical expert on the operation’s systems and processes.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of all plant operational staff—including heavy equipment operators—and maintain positive morale.
  • Begin each shift with a team huddle to reinforce safe work practices, coordinate the day’s activities, and ensure product quantity and quality, recovery of metals, and all on-site logistics.
  • Maintain and enforce all Company environmental compliance, safety and health requirements, policies, procedures and rules.
  • Train all site personnel in safety procedures and equipment use, plant operating procedures, and environmental standards and compliance.
  • Make frequent rounds of the installation to ensure proper operation of equipment, materials storage and handling, installation security, cleanliness, adherence to operating procedures, safety and environmental compliance.
  • Facilitate and track training logs.
  • Work collaboratively with Plant Manager and Senior EHS Specialist to quickly address safety concerns/improvements.
  • Conduct semi-annual performance reviews of direct reports; provide clear expectations of performance and behavior, and regular coaching and feedback; follow the progressive discipline process to address performance and behavior.
  • Review JHAs with team weekly for upcoming tasks.
  • Ensure all employees wear the proper PPE; address immediately when they do not.
  • Provide Plant Manager with Sunday work list every Friday for input and evaluation.
  • Complete spare parts ordering and quarterly auditing in Plant Manager’s absence.
  • Make suggestions for continuous improvement of the operations.
  • Review production numbers with team.
  • Maintain list of belts needed on site and on-site inventory.
  • Ensure direct reports are completing monthly safety skills assignments.
  • Complete timely spill and incident reporting, including notification when necessary.
  • Complete daily production talk and plan.
  • Perform daily tasks after shutdown; communicate with Plant Manager and the team.
  • Participate in maintenance planning and review maintenance task list.
  • Meet at least twice weekly with the Plant Manager and mechanics.
  • Act on the Plant Manager’s behalf in the event of absence or unavailability, including filling out daily reports and attending daily landfill meeting.
  • Ensure all assigned operators complete their daily responsibilities.
  • Complete incident reporting.
  • Maintain trailer cleanliness: Ensure all boxes are taken out and employees maintain proper housekeeping procedures, including picking up after themselves, emptying the garbage, keeping the locker room tidy, and keeping the bathroom and common area tidy.
  • In collaboration with the Plant Manager, hold direct reports accountable for poor performance and completing daily responsibilities.
  • Ensure grade testing is performed daily.
  • Schedule heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Ensure all work orders are made for any work performed and proper parts are attached to the work orders.
  • Track all downtime on a daily basis.
  • Ensure all permits are being properly filled out, e.g. hot work, confined space.
  • Ensure plant starts and stops processing ash at site-specified times.
  • Notify the Plant Manager if any downtime is approaching or expected to reach/exceed one hour.
  • Be available to backfill other rotating shift supervisors as needed, and with proper advance notice, including at other ERS sites.
  • Perform other duties as requested and/or assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manage up to 8 employees on a rotating shift.

Plant Operation

7 days a week, 7:00 am – 7:00 pm

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in operations and maintenance in an industrial or production environment
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in supervising employees

Special Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks and ensure follow-through
  • Strong work ethic and sound judgment
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Ability to influence and lead others
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage stress, work autonomously and accept constructive feedback
  • Ability and willingness to travel between work sites to step in for other shift supervisors
  • Ability to work effectively in adverse environmental conditions, including wet or humid conditions, airborne particles, potential exposure to dust, and chemicals, varied temperatures and outdoor weather conditions, and noise in the work environment
  • Team player spirit and ability to enhance plant morale
  • Respect for Safety, Health & Environment in the workplace
