We are hiring for the following: Position: Physician Schedule : Full Time, 40hrs per week, Mon through Friday Location : Richmond City Justice Center Below is just a sample of the many amazing reasons to consider working for MEDI KO ! MEDI KO was founded 30 years ago by the same physician who still owns and operates it today. As a physician you will report directly to our Chief Medical Officer. You will no longer be required to work weekends or company recognized holidays. You will have a dedicated nurse to assist when you see your patients. Your patient load could range between 15-22 a day. The average age of our patients is 32; about 80% are males. You will have autonomy to refer individuals to see a specialist as needed. Our formulary is very generous and allows you to prescribe the appropriate type of medications based solely on your judgment. Call coverage is by phone only and rotates among the providers. We have comprehensive Nursing Guidelines that Nurses use when screening individual patients before you see them. This modern state of the art facility is staffed by licensed healthcare professionals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All behavioral and mental health patients are diagnosed and managed by our Licensed Mental Health Clinicians and our Psychiatrist. The medical department of the facility already has protocols and guidelines for management of individuals who arrive with indications of withdrawal from alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, and other illicit substances. There is a Dentist and Dental Assistant on-site. We have designated medical records clerks that will request and obtain offsite medical records. Our EMR system is very user-friendly and a dedicated in-house support team will help train and troubleshoot any issues for you, as needed. No more insurance hassles (no prior authorizations, no denials, no waiting on reimbursement); also, no wRVU or "quota" systems. The medical department and any other areas where you might see patients is staffed by security personnel 24/7. MEDI KO will provide you with training in, and orientation to, Correctional Healthcare by physicians and personnel with decades of experience in the field. We will provide and pay for your professional liability insurance including tail coverage ("medical malpractice" insurance). MEDI KO is the only Correctional Healthcare company in the country that has not lost a single lawsuit since its inception 30 years ago. Responsibilities: Abide by MEDIKO protocols, policies, procedures, and regulations of assigned correctional facility Document activity and send to the Corporate Medical Director to monitor services provided and compliance with facility/client contract Notify Corporate Medical Director and Health Services Administrator (HSA) of schedule coverages and schedule changes Assist in arranging coverage of medical services if unavailable for extended period of time Maintain and show proof of current state licensure Maintain CME requirements for continued medical practice in the state of practice Report to assigned facility at designated hour to examine referred patients Review and countersign orders and corresponding progress notes from the PA/APRN, ensuring orders/notes are appropriate and effective Visit the medical unit when on-site and record encounters in the patients progress notes, as applicable Ensure progress note documentation in Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Ensure all documentation is dated, timed, problem-oriented, and recorded in EMR with documents, or legible and signed if handwritten Adhere to the established formulary for therapeutic regimes before utilizing non-formulary procedures Utilize available in-house resource personnel for treatment or resolution of identified problems before using off-site referral, if possible Provide emergency treatment on-site and respond appropriately in urgent or emergency situations Demonstrate proper technique for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and related drug therapy Support standards of correctional medical care through adherence to existing policies and procedures for: admission to the medical unit, transfer to emergency room, and utilization review process for specialty consultant referrals Supervise care given by other professional or non-professional personnel, providing instructions as needed Report any issues to the Corporate Medical Director regarding the lack of appropriate referrals, nursing, or medical intervention necessary for the realization of established patient goals Provide clinical oversight to the facility medical program as defined by the ACA standards Consult with medical specialists for advice and expertise in their respective areas Partner with Health Services Administrator (HSA) in supervising continuous quality improvement program including patient grievances, sanitation, infection control, utilization management, pharmacy and therapeutics, and assist in development of criteria Serve as member of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) committee; make recommendations to improve patient outcomes Review and approve treatment protocols, clinical policies and procedures, to include infection control and infirmary (if applicable at site), and fire and disaster plans at least annually or on as needed basis Serve as liaison with healthcare providers in the community Review all death and inmate grievances and appeals Work with the Health Services administrator (HSA) to establish and maintain chronic care clinics that assure compliance with ACA and NCCHC standards Assist the HSA in monitoring pharmacy to include: formulary compliance, prescribing patterns and dispensing of medications, and participate on the P&T committee Ensure respect, dignity and confidentiality of patients Independent medical judgement with regards to patient diagnosis and treatment shall be unrestricted Qualifications Must hold and maintain active state licensure prior to start date Maintain a valid DEA registration prior to start date Board Certified is preferred; otherwise, maintain CMEs to satisfy state law for the privilege to practice medicine Experience in Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine.
