Details Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a Magnet-designated teaching hospital Adult and geriatric patient population with a variety of medical/surgical conditions under Family Medicine service Unit includes a locked wing with double doors for Department of Corrections (DOC) patients, who may number 0-10 at any given time Staff are always accompanied by a DOC officer while assisting DOC patients Day and night 12-hour shifts (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30) with every other weekend rotation Holiday coverage required as needed Floating required as needed Uses Epic EMR Requirements Active WI or compact RN license required BLS certification required (AHA only) Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience within the last 3 years in Med/Surg Tele specialty Experience starting and maintaining IVs required Epic EMR experience required, within the past 12 months preferred Must pass a telemetry exam with strict passing criteria prior to starting, including 100% identification of lethal rhythms and 80% or higher overall score Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and telemetry monitoring required Additional Information Provide medical/surgical and telemetry nursing care to adult and geriatric patients, including patients from Department of Corrections facilities Previous experience providing care to law enforcement or corrections patients is preferred Skills in wound care, isolation precautions/PPE, feeding tube management, and administration of medications such as heparin, insulin, and PCA are preferred Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted First-time travelers will be considered if they have 5 years of previous inpatient Med/Surg experience Parking permit required for onsite parking, with alternative transportation options available (bus, park & ride, private parking) American Traveler Job ID P-749947.
