Job Title: Police Officer 2 (260003XX) Organization: Developmental Disabilities – Gallipolis Development Center Location: 2500 Ohio Avenue, Gallipolis, OH 45631-1699 Compensation: $27.43 per hour Schedule: Full‑time; 2:30 P.M.–11:00 P.M., every other weekend Union: Unit 2 Overview The Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) is a trauma‑informed agency that supports people with developmental disabilities across Ohio. The position is at the Gallipolis Development Center. Responsibilities Patrol grounds, buildings and vehicles on foot and in patrol car to protect consumers, clients, visitors and staff. Check property for open doors, gates, windows, fires or other hazards and enforce laws, rules and regulations. Verify identity and nature of business of persons on premises, monitor traffic and parking, issue traffic tickets as necessary. Carry firearms when authorized; apprehend, arrest, and apprehend violators and file affidavits, serve warrants and testify in court. Investigate complaints, conduct criminal and accident investigations, document findings and communicate with the public on sensitive issues. Assist with emergency response, escort duties, and support nursing or medical personnel in restraining, transporting or checking curfew of aggressive clients. Perform routine administrative duties: log security conditions, write incident reports, answer telephone, relay messages via radio, file and type reports, and plan daily duties including fire drills and equipment inspections. Qualifications Certificate of successful completion of an approved basic peace officer training program, or 20 years active duty as a peace officer per Ohio Rev. Code §109.78(D). Valid driver’s license. Successful completion of Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Program (OPOTC) fitness testing entry standards during probationary period. Criminal background check required; disqualifying offenses per Rule 5123‑2‑02 will preclude employment. Urinalysis for illegal drug use required prior to appointment; positive test will result in non‑offer. All supplemental question responses must be supported by work experience/education provided on the civil service application.
