Primary Function of Organizational Unit - The Advising Center staff is in place to guide, serve, and support students by:
- Enhancing knowledge and understanding of the options available to Undergraduate students within or entering the College of Technology and Computer Science
- Assisting with appropriate course selection and maintaining accurate records to help ensure a successful path towards graduation
- Helping the student understand rules, regulations and procedures of the College and East Carolina University
- Providing referral information to other campus resources as necessary for student success
- Providing the tools for self-responsibility in academic growth and development of the student
Job Duties - This position supports nine academic advisors, the AD of outreach and recruitment and staff, the AD of first year and transition programs, and the Executive Director. This position will be responsible for general office duties in addition to completion of travel, budget, supplies, scheduling, and administrative needs for Advising activities, outreach, and events, not limited to, but including, Orientation, ECUEXCELS, Starfish, and the College recognition ceremony. Duties include assisting advisors with varied records processing and activities, which may include assisting with general student queries/direction needs, compiling and providing reports using ECU computer/student database systems as requested by advisors, and being knowledgeable of general College and Advising resources and programs for prospective student and current student inquiries. This position supervises work-study students, is responsible for the training, and assignment of routine tasks. The position completes EPAFS and contracts for self-help student workers and graduate and works effectively with HR and other related departments to follow up with and complete necessary tasks. This position is the first point of contact for students in the Student Success Center. This position is responsible for meeting callers/visitors on phone, via web applications, and in person in a high traffic office. This position works in a professional manner in stressful situations and can multi-task, demonstrating patience, understanding, tact, discretion, public relations skills, and respect. In addition, the position is organized and experienced in office procedures. Position works at a high level of competency, has an excellent attendance record, works constantly to accomplish tasks and follows-up on tasks without being asked and meets deadlines. Position uses time well in executing assignments and puts in consistent effort to get job done well, works independently and is a team player. The position demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of the CET Student Success Center, the College, and ECU resources to assist people seeking assistance through the advising center and effectively communicates with other departments as needed to gather additional information. The position keeps the Director apprised of meetings, appointments, budget, other deadlines, etc. The position explains and interprets programs, policies, and procedures. Position utilizes various functions of Word, Excel and Outlook. Position has experience and training in ECU Student Database, and university applications. The position operates office machines, and seeks resources as needed related to the office equipment. Position has excellent organizational and interpersonal and email communication skills within and outside of the department, and recognizes, defines, and resolves standard problems using the Student Success Center's operating procedures, practices, and established precedents.
Minimum Education/Experience - High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
