Job Overview Restaurant Manager – Tortello, Wicker Park, Chicago, IL We are a 36‑seat award‑winning Italian neighborhood restaurant looking for a passionate, positive leader to oversee front‑of‑house operations, private events, catering, and guest experience. Reports to the owners, partners, and head chef. Company Tortello is an Italian‑owned pasta shop & restaurant rooted in artisanal craft, simple high‑quality ingredients, and traditional Italian food. Responsibilities Maintain a positive, welcoming, professional demeanor, nurturing these traits among FOH staff. Manage FOH staff: scheduling, hiring, training, timesheets, disciplinary action, documentation, licensing, opening/closing standards, pre‑shift meetings, and annual required trainings. Lead the execution of private events upstairs, special events at the restaurant, and catering orders, coordinating with kitchen & pasta team. Handle customer service issues in‑store and online, including refunds, complaint resolution, and conflict management. Manage third‑party technology and relationships with POS (Toast) and online ordering services, troubleshooting, menu updates, store hours, and pricing optimization. Maintain inventory to ensure proper supply, reduce costs, and perform monthly FOH inventory. Identify opportunities to increase revenue and efficiencies while meeting labor goals. Communicate and collaborate with owners and head chef on service requirements, event menus, repairs, and end‑of‑shift recaps. Balance admin responsibilities with service duties, and assist with expediting, serving, or bussing as needed. Strengthen guest relationships, pre‑empt and resolve complaints politely. Create a welcoming Tortello experience for guests, ensuring the restaurant looks and feels like Italy. Adhere to all safety and sanitation policies and procedures. Perform other work‑related duties as assigned. Requirements At least 2 years of management experience in a systems‑based, high‑volume restaurant setting. Flexible schedule and ability to work day, evening, and weekend hours as needed. Capacity to stand and walk at a steady pace for up to 8+ hours. Ability to lift 50 lb or more. State of Illinois Basset Certification and Chicago Food Managers Certification (or complete within 30 days of employment). We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. Benefits & Perks
