Job Description About the Role The Senior Medical Science Liaison is a field-based, external customer-facing member of the US therapeutic area medical unit team, responsible for analyzing, interpreting and disseminating scientific data, acquiring and translating customer insights, fostering external expert networks, and compliantly connecting customers to Takeda in order to advance medical strategy and improve patient outcomes. The West territories include the following states (must reside in territory): Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. How You Will Contribute Externally-focused, KOL/HCP related activities are expected to comprise a minimum of 80% of responsibilities Build and maintain professional relationships with KOLs/HCPs per individual territory plans aligned to medical strategy Demonstrate advanced knowledge regarding Takeda disease areas and products as well as therapeutic area competitor landscape; analyze and interpret complex scientific information and disseminate to KOLs/HCPs in a compliant, fair-balanced, and non-misleading manner Support strategically aligned Takeda-sponsored research and appropriately assist with facilitation of medical collaborative studies and investigator-initiated research processes Display advanced knowledge of therapeutic area key intelligence topics/questions and effectively collect, interpret, and internally communicate medical insights from KOLs/HCPs to inform and refine medical strategies and/or tactics Identify and cultivate partnership opportunities between KOLs/HCPs and Takeda US Medical Participate in executing medical strategy at medical conferences (e.g., staff medical booth, internally communicate medical insights acquired through poster/session attendance and KOL/HCP interactions) Within defined timelines and quality standards, respond to unsolicited HCP medical information inquiries referred by Medical Information Appropriately leverage digital tools, including AI, to enhance productivity and improve efficiency (e.g., KOL/HCP engagement planning, medical insights reporting) Complete all required customer activity documentation (e.g., CRM entries, insights capture, etc.), training, expense reporting, and other administrative responsibilities in a timely, accurate, and compliant manner In addition, the Medical Science Liaison must demonstrate the following competencies: Engage Others Establish credibility and act responsibly to earn the confidence, trust and respect of others Communicate with impact Demonstrate openness to new ideas and strategies Collaboration Show respect for differing viewpoints and utilize each person’s unique strengths Promote teamwork by fostering a supportive and inclusive team atmosphere Drive for Results Establish challenging goals and hold self accountable for achieving them Effectively manage multiple assignments and competing priorities by maximizing time, being well organized, and utilizing available resources Prepare and execute work plans to achieve the goals of the organization, and gain the support of others Strategic Approach Effectively demonstrate an understanding of Takeda’s core business in meeting the needs of others Demonstrate ability to solve problems by analyzing issues and making informed recommendations Work to reach decisions that balance the company objectives with key stakeholders’ needs Lead Change Demonstrate a professional approach in adapting to change Adapt work products, processes, and services in response to changes in the business environment Look beyond “the way things are always done” to identify and effectively implement value-added change Self Awareness Listen carefully and is receptive to feedback from others Demonstrate a willingness to admit one’s mistakes and modify approach to ensure a positive outcome Actively seek candid feedback from others and modify behavior based on this feedback Develop Capabilities Actively seek opportunities for personal growth and development and monitor progress toward achieving development goals Respond to feedback by capitalizing on strengths and building upon areas of improvement for the benefit of the organization Recognize opportunities to share personal experiences and situations that contributed to one’s development Scientific Expertise Demonstrate foundational knowledge of Takeda disease states and products as well as therapeutic area competitor landscape Disseminate disease and product information consistent with Takeda medical strategy and scientific communication platform Interaction Excellence Identification, mapping and scientific profiling of established and emerging KOLs and institutions Create compliant, science-based relationships with KOLs/HCPs in territory Compliance Adherence Understand and adhere to Takeda policies and procedures Act in a manner consistent with Takeda values and global code of conduct Business Acumen Understand corporate and medical therapeutic area strategy and is able to articulate his/her contributions to achieving medical goals and objectives Minimum Requirements / Qualifications Required: Doctoral degree in life/health sciences is preferred (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent). Master’s degree in health sciences (MSN, NP or PA) is the minimum requirement Minimum of 2 years of experience post-doctorate as a field-based medical science liaison (MSL) in the pharmaceutical industry is required Excellent communication (written and verbal), organization and collaboration skills are required Execution of activities within legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements Preferred: Dissemination of complex scientific data to healthcare audiences Relevant therapeutic area knowledge and expertise Clinical, research, and/or teaching experience Ability to work effectively in virtual and cross-functional teams Use of digital tools, including AI, to enhance productivity and improve efficiency TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Frequent travel is required; must be available to travel up to 70% of time, including some overnight and weekend Ability to drive and/or fly to meetings and customers is required Must have clean and valid driver’s license At Takeda, we are transforming patient care through the development of novel specialty pharmaceuticals and best in class patient support programs. For Location: Texas - Virtual U.S. Base Salary Range: $151,100.00 - $237,490.00 The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives.
