The program is open to people of all backgrounds committed to increasing the representation of minorities in science and engineering. In a proven formula for success, the program adheres to 13 key components . While top scholars at other institutions are motivated by competition, Meyerhoffs rely on mutual support and continually challenge each other to do more, creating an environment of positive peer influence and mutually beneficial relationships in the pursuit of excellence. Position Overview: This position will provide foundational advising (academic and career), track student progress, and coordinate the day-to-day retention activities for sophomore Meyerhoff Scholars. In addition, the incumbent will develop and facilitate targeted programming to include workshops, seminars, group sessions, and one-on-one meetings promoting academicbest practices, graduate pathway preparation, and research engagement. Additionally, this position will support the six-week residential Summer Bridge Program. Why Work at UMBC? UMBC offers competitive compensation. Responsibilities: Advise andmonitorindividual academic and career progress. Provide one-on-oneadvising, mentoring, and personal coaching for second-year MeyerhoffScholars. Provide guidance andmonitorprogram standards on curriculum planning,academic requirements, courseselectionand registration, academic difficulty, and majoror minor options. Coordinate referrals to and collaborate with campus partners toaddress student questions and concerns. Serve as instructor for UNIV 201 course (1-credit) for sophomore Meyerhoff Scholars. Assist Summer Bridge Coordinator with program leadership with oversight ofacademic, leadership, life skills, and social programming to support the growth anddevelopment of incoming scholars for a six-week Summer Bridge Program. Must have excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Strong customer serviceskills and the ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds and establish effectiverelationships are required. Must be detail-oriented, work well under pressure, exercise good judgment,and confidentially reconcile differing points of view. Ability to efficiently prioritize, organize, andmanage a workload as well as multitask in a fast-paced academic setting, the ability to clearly and concisely express ideas and positions, both orally and in written form, to all levels of education professionals, students, partners, and constituents is required. Required Minimum Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited four-year college or university. The incumbent must have a minimum of three years of experience in collegiate academic advising, mentoring, counseling, or non-profit administration, supporting and equipping students with skills and strategies that promote success. A Master's degree will substitute for up to two years of experience.Must have excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Strong customer serviceskills and the ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds and establish effectiverelationships are required. Must be detail-oriented, work well under pressure, exercise good judgment,and confidentially reconcile differing points of view. Ability to efficiently prioritize, organize, andmanage a workload as well as multitask in a fast-paced academic setting, the ability to clearly and concisely express ideas and positions, both orally and in written form, to all levels of education professionals, students, partners, and constituents is required.
