Job Title: Early Education Program Coordinator Department: Program - TK & K Report To: Site Director Direct Reports: N/A Salary Range: $21.00 FLSA Status: Part-time Non-exempt Primary Function The Early Education Program Coordinator delivers high-quality, play-based expanded learning program designed specifically for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students. Through intentional lesson planning, relationship-based teaching, and developmentally appropriate practices, this position creates engaging experiences that foster social-emotional growth, early literacy and numeracy, creativity, physical development, and school readiness. Reporting directly to the Site Director, the coordinator serves as a subject matter expert for TK/K programming and works collaboratively with site staff to ensure our youngest members experience a safe, joyful, and enriching environment every day. Professional Standards Leadership Develop commitment from members to ensure active participation in programs and activities. Empower members to be leaders through positive role modeling. Facilitate National Program sessions and Local Initiative Activities in the following areas: Character & Leadership, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness, & Recreation. Provide recognition to members through ASSET validations, healthy incentives, and affirmation on a regular basis. Team building mentality is exemplified in all work done. Ability and desire to collaborate with other staff members to deliver fun and engaging activities as well as developmentally enriching lesson plans. Positively influence and uplift members and other affiliates. Follow all policies and procedures at all times. Manage & Develop Resources Monthly program planning is required to ensure preparation and successful programs and activities. Implement age-appropriate lesson plans that promote learning through play and exploration. Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and inspiring youth to be the best they can be. Assess and monitor children's progress through observations and assessments, providing feedback to parents as needed. Attend and participate in Staff Trainings; apply knowledge gained post-training. Manage and embrace the Youth Development Strategy, ASSET, and Boys & Girls Club culture and philosophies. Actively involved in classroom preparation, classroom cleaning, snack/lunch supervision, playground duty, and naptime monitoring where applicable. Support two Site Showcases per school year where you would take the lead on showcasing TK – K activities. Must be able to inform important and relevant information in Staff Meetings and to members, parents, co-workers, Program Coordinator, Site Director and other Boys & Girls Club affiliates. Must be able to listen to co-workers, parents, youth members and community and other Boys & Girls Club affiliates. Must be able to present important and relevant information and/or presentations through program facilitation, staff meetings or training, and/or other Boys & Girls Club events. Must be able to write and compose clear, concise, accurate written documentation and data reports. Proven proficiency in building and supporting relationships with families; understanding differentiated learning styles, from neurotypical to neurodiverse students, preferred. Strong cultural competency and confidence working with diverse family backgrounds striving to create a community and a place for children to belong. Check and respond to emails frequently, according to employee communication norms. Attend any required meetings with Early Childhood Program Coordinators. Family Engagement Build trusting relationships with families Communicate regularly about children’s successes and developmental progress Welcome families into showcase and special events Support smooth transitions between the school day and expanded learning. Collaborate with classroom teachers, site administration, and club leadership to support continuity between instructional day and expanded learning programs. Supervision & Safety Must be able to supervise youth members during program time. Provide sound and reasonable discipline of youth members at necessary times through written documentation (i.e. write-up), parent phone call. Practice and constantly be aware of safe practices like Crisis Management, Emergency Preparedness, CPR and First Aid, etc. Maintain a clean and orderly workspace at all times. Able to identify and react safely to potential hazards, emergency situations, and crisis situations. Maintain a clean and organized space that meets health and safety standards. Qualifications Skills/Knowledge Ability to organize, supervise, and discipline youth members and staff in a safe environment. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required. Education High School Diploma or GED required. Must meet the requirements of an Instructional Aid in the San Marcos Unified School District. (i.e., having at least 48 college credits, a bachelor’s degree, a passing score on the CBEST, or passing the basic skills proficiency test with either BGCSM or SMUSD. If you do not have any of the above, willing to take the basic skills proficiency test and pass.) CPR & First Aid certification for all ages is required. If you do not have this certification, you must be willing to obtain it through the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos as soon as possible, typically less than 90 days. Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification. If you do not have this certification, you must be willing to obtain it through the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos as soon as possible, typically less than 90 days. Experience A minimum of 6 months’ work experience with a Boys & Girls Club or another youth serving organization is required. Experience working with ages 4 – 6 years old is strongly preferred. Physical Requirements/Work Environment Be available to work 5 days a week on a part‑time basis. Hours are subjected to change based on average daily attendance at the program. Maintain a high energy level. Be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. Speak clearly and hear normal conversations as well as out of the ordinary noises. Sit or stand for four plus hours per day. This will most likely be standing for four plus hours per day. Background check and fingerprint clearance is required. Drug & TB screening is required. Stoop, bend, climb, and walk frequently. Lift up to 40 pounds.
