SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Commercial Portfolio Manager (PM) role is responsible for managing and monitoring a portfolio of commercial relationships. This role focuses on credit quality, risk assessment, financial analysis, and ongoing relationship support for Borrowers, while working closely with lenders to assure sound portfolio performance. The PM will work closely with Senior Management, loan officers, and the Credit Department. The role reports directly to the Senior Commercial Credit Manager. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Manage an assigned loan portfolio, ensuring adherence to Bank policies, regulatory requirements, and credit standards. 
• Perform financial analysis, including cash flow, collateral, and risk assessment of existing credits and relationships. Support the credit team in the analysis of new credit, as needed.
• Works with Credit on renewals of loan maturities, covenant compliance, and annual reviews for the lending team. 
• Monitor portfolio performance to identify trends, potential risks, and deteriorating credits early, assigning and updating internal risk ratings and promptly escalating criticized or classified credits to Credit and Senior Management. 
• Collect, compile, and review annual Borrower financial statements for completeness and accuracy and ensure timely completion of annual reviews. 
• Prepare advances for construction loans and monitor current Bank financed construction projects to ensure compliance with approved budgets and track progress of in process projects to ensure completion within their approved timeframes.
• Interact by phone/email/in person with existing customers, brokers, property managers, and other professionals involved in real estate transactions, identifying opportunities to cross-sell additional Bank products and services. 
• Generate monthly and quarterly commercial lending reports, including but not limited to CML, Construction, Large Borrower, Householding, Legal Lending Limit, Exception Tracking, and Annual Review Tracking. 
• Provide ongoing guidance and mentoring to other members of the Credit Department as well as provide assistance to the Senior Commercial Credit Manager as needed. 
• Support ad-hoc projects and initiatives as required by the Bank.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial credit analysis, underwriting, or portfolio management, preferably within a bank or credit union environment.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, tax returns, and cash flow analysis.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with a proactive and collaborative attitude.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with financial statement spreading or loan origination software is a plus.
• Formal credit training and working knowledge of commercial real estate and C&I lending practices preferred.
