Summary Position Description:

Under the general direction and oversight of the WIC Coordinator, the WIC Nutritionist is responsible for supporting the delivery of services for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). This includes conducting nutrition assessments, providing basic education and counseling to low-risk pregnant, postpartum, and lactating women, as well as infants and children. The Nutritionist will work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and other team members to ensure continuity of care and comprehensive support for WIC clients.

Responsibilities:

· Conduct nutrition assessments and document findings for WIC participants.

· Provide individual counseling and nutrition education for pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children.

· Collect, record, and monitor participant anthropometric data.

· Select and issue appropriate WIC food packages based on nutritional needs.

· Perform client recruitment, scheduling, and enrollment/certification activities through outreach activities and community engagement efforts.

· Make appropriate referrals to healthcare and social service providers.

· Answer client phone calls and assist with general inquiries.

· Collaborate with professionals across disciplines to support client care.

· Travel locally for routine duties and occasionally out of town for meetings or conferences.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience:

Education:

· Required Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or related field

· Preferred: Registered Dietician licensing

Skills & Experience:

· Requires knowledge of general principles of public health.

· Skilled in maintaining client medical files, both electronic and hard copy.

· Knowledge, skills, and experience working with and utilizing community resources.

· Familiar with local health and human services agencies.

· Computer literacy at the user level is required

· Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees, patients, family members, health personnel, and other professionals.

· Demonstrates problem solving skills and is solution oriented.

· Preferred – bilingual speaking/writing proficiency (Spanish).

Administrative Requirements

§ Must own a dependable automobile properly insured and possess a valid driver’s license.

§ Willing to accept other duties as assigned by ESHD.

§ Adheres to policies and procedures, confidentiality, and HIPPA principles.
