Payroll & Accounting Specialist

Southwest Public Libraries is seeking a detail-oriented, organized professional to join our Business Office as a Payroll & Accounting Specialist. Working closely with the Fiscal Officer and Accounting Assistant, this position administers biweekly payroll and supports purchasing, accounts payable, banking, and financial recordkeeping. The successful candidate will bring strong communication skills, a commitment to accuracy, and the ability to handle confidential information with care. Key responsibilities include: Processing biweekly payroll and reviewing timecards for accuracy. Maintaining payroll records, deductions, tax withholdings, and leave balances. Reconciling payroll deductions and preparing retirement system reporting. Answering employee and supervisor questions about payroll. Supporting accounts payable, purchase orders, bank deposits, and financial reporting. Maintaining procedures and records and assisting with audits. Qualifications: Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or equivalent experience. Knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build effective working relationships with staff and vendors. Governmental accounting and payroll experience preferred. The position requires extended computer use and the ability to handle items weighing up to 30 pounds. Starting Pay: $27.00–$30.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience Remote work: Opportunity to work remotely up to 20% of the time. Reports to: Fiscal Officer.
