Driver (Part-Time)

Transit DriverUnder the direct supervision of the Co-Executive Directors in the Watertown and Sisseton offices, the Transit Driver is responsible for transporting passengers over specified routes in the Lennox/Lincoln County area, as well as medical and veteran trips to various locations across the region.Essential duties and responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:Drive bus on scheduled routes to transport the publicPerform pre-trip inspection checks to ensure all functions of the bus are accurately operating to ensure compliance with regulatory safety precautionsPerform routine and operational maintenance on the bus and report to proper personnel all routine maintenance and repairs including needed oil changes, tire repairs and changes, physical damage to vehicles, flushes, etc.Comply with all traffic regulations and report any accidentsKeep interior and exterior of vehicles cleanRegulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfortCommunicate with dispatcher as to delays and/or problems with passenger pick upKeep bus fueledAssist passengers in boarding(s) and with packages as necessaryCollect donations or fares, count and submit to officeProject a positive image to the public and provide exceptional customer service skills speaking in a friendly and professional mannerPerform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policiesSubmit daily time sheets and complete daily and monthly bus reportsSecondary duties and responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:Do not smoke on or near the bus and do not allow others to do so eitherAttend meetings, trainings, or seminars as requestedPerform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policiesPerform other such duties and functions as deemed necessaryMinimum qualifications and skills:Safe driving recordDemonstrated ability to drive all transit vehicles in a safe mannerMaintain good personal hygiene at all times and wear the uniforms providedAbility to operate a variety of communication equipment, including two-way radio, mobile telephone and computer mobile dispatch, and scheduling transit systemMathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide using numbersEffective in communication with Transit staff and the publicAbility to apply common sense understanding to perform detailed but uninvolved written and verbal instructionsAbility to work with and get along with a variety of people and personalities by being courteous, respectful and helpfulAbility to be punctualEducation and experience:High School diploma or G.E.D.Ability to complete reports by writing and adding numbersAbility to carry out verbal instructionsA reliable employment history demonstrating punctuality and good attendanceCertificates, licenses, and examinations:Valid South Dakota Driver's LicenseA South Dakota Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement is not required, but is preferredFederal regulations require pre-employment, reasonable, suspicious, random, post-accident and return to duty and return to duty drug and alcohol testingAbility to pass a pre-employment background checkMaintain current training and certifications as deemed necessary for transit operations including but not limited to CPR, First Aid, PASS (wheelchair lift) training for ramp, lift and securement, passenger sensitivity, defensive driving, fire safety and evacuation training, etc.Physical and environmental demands:Physical stamina to lift, carry, pull, push, stoop and/or otherwise move when transporting individuals and using other equipment. Ability to lift and move 50 pounds.Ability to push and pull wheelchairs for challenged passengersHearing in the normal audio range with or without correctionSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Drive in extreme and fluctuating outside weather and road conditions
