HVAC TECHNICIAN (FULL TIME)

Position Details Title: HVAC TECHNICIAN - TAMU GALVESTON Location: TAMU Galveston - 1001 Texas Clipper Road, Galveston, TX 77554. Openings at other locations within the school district available. Note: online applications accepted only. Schedule: Full time schedule; Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Full and Part Time options with flexibility to meet most scheduling needs. Requirement: 2 years of prior HVAC experience and an EPA 608 with commercial experience preferred. Job Summary The HVAC Maintenance Technician performs a variety of skilled maintenance duties related to the facilities engineering and maintenance functions. The incumbent works under a Supervisor, Foreman, or Master Mechanic, using a proven skill set in one trade and an appropriate state license. The role includes independent analysis and correction of complex problems and ensures that non‑licensed workers perform work correctly. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance and non‑complex reactive repairs. Update work statuses and document tasks completed in the CMMS using a mobile device. Determine manpower, material needs, and deadlines for jobs and projects. Clean, lubricate, service, repair, and diagnose malfunction of HVAC, electrical and mechanical building systems, sterilizers, food service equipment, sprinkler and standpipe systems, transport systems, electronic signaling systems, fire alarm systems, and similar plant equipment. Assist in decision making on all repairs and report major problems to the Maintenance Supervisor, Foreman, or Manager as appropriate. Construct, finish, install, maintain, and repair electrical and mechanical systems using power and hand tools and necessary equipment. Review exterior vendor projects and create punch lists. Analyze and correct complex building system problems and electro‑mechanical issues related to utilities. Support project management activities as needed. Respond to emergency problems and perform emergency repairs. Maintain logs, perform rounds, and complete preventive maintenance work orders, tests, and inspections. Recommend modifications or improvements to preventive maintenance systems. Maintain shops and mechanical areas in a clean and safe manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Technician in an institutional setting, in an engineering or maintenance discipline. Possession of one of the following: Journeyman Electrical License, Registered ACR Technician with EPA certification in Refrigerant, or Journeyman Plumber License. Experience working with blueprints and schematics; valid driver’s license. General understanding of electro‑mechanical equipment. Basic ability to use hand‑operated construction equipment. Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds and kneel, bend, stoop, and perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time. Working Conditions Some exposure to high heat, noise, dust, dirt, and areas requiring infection control. Required to meet daily deadlines for work completion. Must be able to work all hours, including weekends and nights, as necessary to maintain facilities safely.
