Admission Counselor

The Admission Counselor at Harvey Mudd College, under the guidance and in consultation with the Senior Associate Director of Admission, will play an active and integral role in a wide variety of activities within the Office of Admission. This position requires full engagement in the entire admission process.

The Admission Counselor will be essential in shaping the future student body of Harvey Mudd College by contributing to recruitment strategies, evaluating applications, and enhancing the overall admissions experience. This role requires flexibility and adaptability to meet the dynamic needs of the Office of Admission.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Leading the Office of Admission's social media efforts, including planning and executing strategies, creating and publishing timely content for multiple platforms, and hiring, training, and supervising student interns.
• Serving as an integral member of the Admission team that is responsible for recruiting and enrolling students who fulfill the College's mission.
• Supporting the mission of the Office of Admission in growing the diversity within the applicant pool and enrolling class. Contributing to strategies and programming designed to meet this objective.
• Learning the College's mission and ethos. Keeping current with the College's academic programs, support services, and co-curricular offerings.
• Representing the college and building relationships with prospective students, their families, high school counselors, and community members. This includes interviewing prospective students and some off-campus recruitment travel.
• Evaluating applications for admission in a timely manner and participating fully in the committee based selection process of candidates for admission.
• Developing fluency of office tools and procedures, especially Slate CRM by Technolutions.
• Practicing discretion and maintaining confidentiality of records, correspondence, and information, regardless of the format.
• Managing multiple activities and priorities. Anticipating seasonal variations in the workload.
• Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required qualifications include:

• Education: Bachelor's degree required.
• Experience: Experience that has resulted in an understanding and appreciation of highly selective admission is appealing but not required.
• Licenses/Certifications: Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to the College's automobile insurance carrier.

• Proficient in the operation of a computer, data entry techniques, and specified software including Microsoft Office and G Suite. Proficiency in design tools like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
• Willing and able to travel (up to two weeks at a time, seasonal) and work weekend and evening hours as needed.

Remote Work Eligibility: Category B as defined in the College's Remote Work Policy, with occasional ad-hoc remote work flexibility (as needed). Your approved remote work arrangements allow for up to two remote work days per week during the academic year and up to three remote work days during the non-academic year. Please note these days may vary depending on departmental and College needs.

Your standard working hours will generally be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, though these hours may vary depending on departmental and College needs. All remote work arrangements, including ad-hoc remote work, must be approved by the direct supervisor, area Cabinet member, and Human Resources, and are subject to periodic review based on institutional needs. These arrangements are neither guaranteed nor considered entitlements and may change due to factors such as employee performance, evolving business needs, or changes to the position.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit; stand, use hands and fingers and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The individual must regularly lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Hours: Regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours will vary to meet the needs of the department or college and may include weekends and evenings especially when travel is required.

Classification: This is an exempt, full-time, benefits-eligible position.

Salary: $70,300-$72,000 per year.

Reports To: This position reports to the Senior Associate Director of Admission.
