Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant is responsible for a defined set of month-end accounting, reconciliation, and tax-compliance activities in accordance with Company policy and U.S. GAAP. The role owns U.S. sales & use and property tax filings, all intercompany reconciliations and journal entries (including foreign exchange and cash pool/sweep entries), prepaid accounting, annual surveys and business license renewals, and a range of other journals and balance sheet reconciliations. Working closely with and coached by the Senior Accountant, the Staff Accountant has clear room to grow — as skills and experience develop, the Senior Accountant will delegate additional and more complex responsibilities, providing a path to broaden scope over time. Accuracy, timeliness, and strong follow-through are essential to keeping the general ledger complete and audit ready.Tax & Compliance FilingsPrepare all U.S. sales & use tax and property tax filings, compile and submit the supporting files to Grant Thornton, and process the related payments by online payment or check.Complete all annual surveys and business license renewals accurately and by their required deadlines.Intercompany AccountingPerform all US monthly intercompany reconciliations and prepare the related journal entries, applying foreign exchange (FX) transaction knowledge.Record cash pool and cash sweep entries and reconcile intercompany balances to ensure they agree and are accurate.Prepaid AccountingPrepare all prepaid journal entries and reconcile prepaid accounts, ensuring costs are properly recorded and amortized.General Ledger Reconciliations & JournalsPerform monthly bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies across all US and Canada bank accounts.Prepare various other monthly journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, verifying the accuracy of entries so the general ledger stays complete and accurate.Growth, Support & DevelopmentTake on additional and increasingly complex responsibilities over time as coached and delegated by the Senior Accountant.Support the annual audit by preparing schedules and responding to requests from internal and external parties.Provide research and ad-hoc analysis and serve as backup for other areas of Finance as needed or requested.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required.One to three years of general accounting experience required.Experience preparing and posting journal entries and performing account reconciliations.Experience with U.S. sales & use and/or property tax filings preferred.Experience with intercompany accounting and foreign exchange (FX) transactions preferred.Strong administrative and follow-up skills, with the ability to meet recurring filing and month-end close deadlines.Able to work independently within established guidelines and maintain confidential company information.Ability to multi-task and prioritize across competing deadlines.General knowledge of ERP systems, ideally JD Edwards (JDE), is a plus but not a requirement.COMPETENCIES:Analytical Thinking – Approaching a problem by using a logical, systematic, sequential approachTechnical Expertise – Depth of knowledge and skill in a technical areaResults Orientation – Focusing on the desired end result of one’s own or one’s unit’s work; setting challenging goals, focusing effort on the goals, and meeting or exceeding themCustomer Orientation – Demonstrated concern for satisfying one’s external and/or internal customersPersonal Credibility – Demonstrated concern that one be perceived as responsible, dependable, and trustworthySelf Confidence – Faith in one’s own ideas and ability to be successful; taking an independent position in the face of opposition.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
