Swim Instructor This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor at the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swim classes. Essential functions include instructing swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly; supporting members and program participants in achieving their goals. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helping participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encouraging parent or caregiver involvement. Preparing attendance records, skill performance reports, progress reports and end of session certificates. Calling participants whenever class changes occur, such as in instances of inclement weather. Organizing and putting away needed class equipment. Reporting damaged equipment. Maintaining order and discipline among participants. Conveying information on aquatics programs and schedules and, as appropriate, referring program participants and families to other programs. Knowing and reviewing AMA YMCA Aquatics Safety Plan and following all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completing incident and accident reports as necessary. Applying all YMCA policies and procedures and exemplifying the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith. All other duties as assigned. Leadership competencies include collaboration and developing self and others. Qualifications include a minimum age of 16. Certifications: professional rescuer CPR/AED/O2 and First Aid. Current YMCA Swim Instructor or equivalent. Ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards. Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness. Capacity to work cooperatively in a team environment. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Child Abuses Prevention, Understanding Your Biases, Anti-Harassment, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazard Communication Awareness, and Slips, Trips, and Falls trainings required within 30 days of hire.
