Summary

About the Position: Serves as the District Security Officer, fulfilling the roles of the Chief, Security and Protection and the Omaha District Security Manager. The Security Officer works under the supervision of the Chief of Staff, Omaha District, who sets the overall objectives and decides on the resources available.

Duties

Help

• Briefs, advises, and makes recommendations to the supervisor and leadership on the status and needs of organization protection programs and situation-appropriate protection measures.
• Plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs protection actions taken by organization operations to ensure conformance to regulations, directives, and policies.
• Coordinates and has oversight of responsibility for the organization Threat Awareness and Reporting program (TARP), a counterintelligence program that provides protection from foreign espionage.
• Responsible for executing organization Information, Personnel, and Industrial Security requirements.
• Makes assignments and work/shift-schedules, establishes priorities, and provides advice and assistance as required.
• Informs subordinates of pertinent policies and procedures and changes to technical and administrative guidelines.
• Plans, coordinates, and tracks training procedures supporting the organizations various Protection and Security Programs as required by law and other various program guidelines.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Required to successfully complete (receive certification) a resident Operations Security Level II Course within one year of entrance on duty date.
• Required to successfully complete (receive certification) a Level II Anti-Terrorism (AT) Officer course within one year of entrance on duty date.
• This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
• Required to travel 25% of the time.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes develops and implements security policies and procedures for analyzing and evaluating the character, background, and history of employees, candidates for employment, and other persons having or proposed to be granted access to classified or other sensitive information, materials, or work sites. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
