Job Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Room (ER) is responsible for providing care to patients in a Level 1 Trauma Center with an average of 250-300 patients per day. This role involves floating between four facilities, managing a patient ratio of 1:4, and working with a team that includes two charge RNs and four patient care technicians per shift. The nurse will be expected to pass exams and complete SIMs lab training for key skills, such as Foley catheter insertion. Strong knowledge of maintaining sterile fields is required.

Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care in a high-acuity ER setting with trauma, burns, and pediatric transfers.
• Float between St. Joseph's Main, St. Joseph's Westgate, and two free-standing ERs.
• Perform tasks like Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes with a focus on sterile technique.
• Utilize Philips monitors for telemetry and work with a multidisciplinary team, including RTs, hospitalists, and pharmacists.
• Complete floor-specific orientation of 2-3 shifts and adhere to unit policies and procedures.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 6 months of Trauma Level 1 experience.
• Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.
• Ability to read telemetry strips and experience with Cerner EMR.
• Pass the DYS exam prior to acceptance (two attempts allowed).
• Compliance with facility grooming standards, including hair color and no facial piercings.
• Completion of educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care during orientation.
