Phlebotomist

The Phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining blood specimens and collecting non-blood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs for laboratory testing. This role includes performing screening tests, reporting results, and processing specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing and dispatch to reference laboratories.

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood specimens and collect non-blood specimens for laboratory testing.
• Perform screening tests and report results.
• Process specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing.
• Prepare specimens for dispatch and testing at reference laboratories.
• Participate in early morning, evening, and overnight shifts, including rotating weekends.
• Respond to codes and handle arterial blood gases (ABGs) and rapid response situations.

Essential Skills

• Phlebotomy certification
• Experience with blood draws and specimen collection
• Ability to handle a busy workload, including an average of 50 sticks on the day shift, 35 on the evening shift, and 25-30 in the first four hours of the night shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a hospital lab setting is preferred.
• Ability to adapt to a structured corporate development path for career advancement.

Work Environment

The position is based in a busy hospital lab setting, requiring rotating weekends with one consistent weekday off each week. The role involves handling adult patients predominantly, with few pediatric cases, and responding to the only burn unit in the area. Shifts vary between early morning, evening, and overnight, offering an opportunity for long-term growth in a hospital that is expanding its laboratory operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tulsa, OK.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
