Impact Managers (IMs) lead and develop teams of full-time AmeriCorps Volunteers, also known as Student Success Coaches (SSCs) as idealistic, emerging leaders and practitioners who provide holistic support to students, classrooms, and school communities. Reporting to an Impact Director and working primarily from partner school(s), IMs play a critical role in implementing City Year's Whole School, Whole Child (WSWC) service model, mission, and practices. This position is responsible for three core areas of work: team development and experience, school partnerships, and City Year's impact and organizational goals. Impact Managers support their teams through a challenging and rewarding year of service while helping create the conditions for student and school success. This includes curating and supporting transformational school partnerships, community and external stakeholder relationships to promote and support the long-term sustainability of the site.

Compensation range for this position is $50,000 - $56,000 annually, commensurate with experience. The anticipated start for this position is August 2026.

Responsibilities

The Impact Manager will perform the following roles and responsibilities as described below:

Team Management

• Lead, manage, and coach one to two school-based teams of 18-25-year-olds completing a year of AmeriCorps service to achieve service impact with students and reach their leadership development potential. One school team can be 6-9 AmeriCorps Volunteers, two school teams can be 12-18 AmeriCorps Volunteers.
• Monitor performance through consistent check-ins, clear expectations, and timely feedback to address challenges, balancing accountability with the developmental needs of early-career adults.
• Mentor student success coaches through career exploration and decision-making, helping them clarify their post-service goals and build skills and networks to pursue their next step.
• Ensure student success coaches successfully meet AmeriCorps service requirements, including service hours, documentation, and adherence to prohibited activities and program policies.
• Foster a positive, inclusive team culture that supports collaboration and belonging.

Service Delivery & Impact

• Lead team in implementing City Year's service model, including classroom support, individualized tutoring, schoolwide initiatives, extended learning time, and other supports aligned to school priorities.
• Coach AmeriCorps Volunteers to deliver differentiated tutoring and coaching for students in English-Language Arts, math, and interpersonal skills development.
• Conduct consistent Observation & Coaching to implement City Year instructional strategies.
• Use and interpret student- and program-level data to identify trends, guide coaching priorities, and inform decisions with school partners.
• Ensure accurate and timely collection and entry of service and student data.

School Partner Management

• Serve as the primary liaison between City Year and the school, building strong relationships with principals, teachers, and staff to align service with school priorities and follow through on shared decisions.
• Participate in regular meetings with school leadership and partners to discuss progress, needs, and conditions for success.

Collaboration & Learning

• Collaborate effectively with teammates to achieve sitewide goals and foster an inclusive environment.
• Contribute to AmeriCorps Volunteer learning by leading or cofacilitating training sessions during start-of-year onboarding and ongoing learning & development days.
• Reinforce centralized training through on-the-job coaching, reflection, and team learning activities.
• Partner with Development and Marketing and Communication colleagues on school visits, funder tours, and/or community partnerships.
• Role model a growth mindset and commitment to City Year's culture and values as a leader within a youth-serving organization.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor to advance City Year's mission.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• 2-4+ years of experience with direct team management youth development, people management, education, or comparable experience
• Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Authorized documentation to work in the United States
• Ability to pass criminal background checks as required for working with school-age children

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience coaching, supervising, or developing young adults
• Experience working in schools or youth development settings
• Experience using data to inform decisions, coaching, or program improvement
• Experience building and maintaining partnerships with educators, school leaders, or community stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Philadelphia and/or Norristown, PA school district context
• City Year and/or AmeriCorps experience

Working Conditions

• This is a year-round, in-person, primarily school-based position. IMs are required to work in the schoolhouse a minimum of 4 days per week, except on days they need to attend in-person meeting and/or work outside of the schoolhouse.
• Generally follows a schedule aligned with school-day and afterschool hours (typically between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.), with occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekend hours for events, trainings, or service days.
• IMs must be available for afterschool programming.
• Position requires travel between multiple school sites within the Philadelphia and Norristown, PA school districts and occasional local travel for City Year events. IMs will support two schools and will typically spend two days at school A and two days at school B each week.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, youth-centered school environment, with a noise level that can range from moderate to high.
• Occasional lifting or carrying of materials (e.g., event supplies, training materials) up to ~20 lbs.
• Reliable transportation to and from school sites and office locations is required, or ability and willingness to navigate public transit system.
• Must have reliable internet access when participating in any required virtual meetings or trainings.
