Terms of Employment: 12 months/ 234 days per year. Entry level rate of pay is $15.50/hour with additional consideration based upon directly related experience. Please see attachment below for complete description.

Primary Purpose

Maintains a clean and healthy school/office environment for students and staff. Submits work order requests to appropriate department. Works with campus or department to meet school or office needs.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

• High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency), preferred
• Applicant must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by applicant

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
• Ability to operation cleaning equipment and lift and use heavy equipment
• Ability to use proper handling and use of cleaning supplies and equipment
• Able to read and write and complete simple forms
• Must have the ability to use the following equipment Vacuums, Buffers, Ladders, and associated janitorial tools
• Must have knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their proper use
• Must have good written & communication skills
• Must be able to read and write directions and complete forms and reports
• Must be able to safely carry minimum of 45 pounds a least 75 feet without assistance

Experience

• One (1) year custodial experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

1. Use proper methods to clean inside and outside of District sites which includes floors, carpets, walls, windows, ceilings, patios, and bathrooms.

2. Determines supplies and re-order levels.

3. Use proper methods to move equipment, furniture and supplies up to (50) fifty pounds.

4. Use proper safety methods to work and clean and use protective equipment.

5. Assist with maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and keeping District sites furnished at all times.

6. Follow proper site security requirements for locking, checking and safeguarding facilities.

7. Assist with special projects as requested by District.

8. Assist with campus set-up to include arranging tables, chairs, moving furniture or equipment as requested by campus or department.

9. Attendance at work is an essential job function.

10. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Tools/Equipment Used: Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, hand tools, shampooer, lawn mower, edger, and weed eater.

Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching, and overhead reaching.

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals, and materials; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
