Imaging Services Representative

This position maintains a digital library of radiological images. The Imaging Services Representative responds to internal and external requests for exam results and prepares images for doctor or patient requests. The incumbent provides oversight in regards to prioritization of image interpretations, first line support for imaging informatics troubleshooting, and also resolves specific issues relevant to patient care internally and externally. This position is not responsible for providing direct patient care.

Responsibilities

1. Organizes daily workflow of images and assists hospital staff in the execution of their duties by acting as a resource person for timely, effective use of services, both in electronic and manual modalities.
2. Downloads images from other institutions into the PACS system.
3. Routinely checks PACS monitors to ensure that studies are flowing from the acquisition modalities and are properly routed to the review stations to assure a clinical continuity of service.
4. Initiates and follows through with tracking missing images to point of acquisition, documents transmission of these images to PACS and follows through with notification of person.
5. Generates reports designed to track images from acquisition to PACS and interacts with managers in tracking these images.
6. Resolves broken, combined and misidentified studies. Transmits electronic images as needed.
7. Trains and assists physicians and staff as needed. Performs radiology help desk functions, as assigned.
8. Processes requests for image release and follows retrieval procedures.
9. Identifies workflow opportunities to improve productivity.
10. Manages critical results communication for radiologists.
11. Troubleshoots technology issues and provides first line support and/or dispatches specialists to resolve radiology IT issues.
12. Appropriately documents HIPAA compliance.
13. Ensures necessary images are available for surgical procedures and emergency patients either via the web product for PACS, hard copy film, CD/DVD, or other established means.
14. Updates patient demographics, merge patients, merge images to studies, and updates order information when defined as part of established procedures or import/export of images data.
15. Performs other tasks related to the operation and monitoring of radiology clinical and administrative information systems.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of advanced imaging applications.
• Ability to work with a PACS system.
• Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of DICOM, HL-7, and application interface interaction with enterprise systems.
• Ability to effectively present technical and service related information and respond to questions in one-on-one and group situations.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Ability to work independently with strong written and verbal skills.
• Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
• Ability to be on after-hours call and available for first line support and to address image routing issues.

• One (1) year of help desk support experience, customer service experience, or the equivalency.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

• Associate's degree, completion of a two (2) year technical program, or the equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in MS office products (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access).
• Familiarity with Notes e-mail and calendaring is preferred.
• Familiarity/experience with the following IT systems: Philips iSite, Philips Intellispace, and Osirix (or other PACS systems), PowerScribe (or similar speech recognition medical dictation systems), Epic Radiant (or similar Radiology Information System product), Epic Hyperspace (or similar EMR product), and SeeMyRadiology (or other peer-to-peer medical image sharing systems).

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

• This is a sedentary position in an office setting that may exert up to 10 pounds and may lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This position involves sitting most of the time and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
