Job Description

This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving production equipment in a nonwovens manufacturing facility that supports the automotive and mattress industries. The position works primarily on second shift with training provided on first shift , and requires a self-starter who can work independently at night while collaborating with engineering support as needed. The work is approximately 60% electrical and 40% mechanical, with a strong emphasis on fabrication, welding, and machinery installation.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production machinery and supporting equipment in a nonwovens manufacturing facility.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues, with approximately 60% of work focused on electrical systems and 40% on mechanical components.
• Move, install, align, and set up new or existing machinery safely and efficiently.
• Fabricate and weld parts, guards, brackets, and other components needed to maintain and improve equipment performance.
• Diagnose issues caused by dust or debris affecting relays, photo eyes, and other sensitive components, and implement effective cleaning and protection measures.
• Work independently on second shift, making sound decisions and escalating issues to the head engineer when additional support is needed.
• Participate in a weekend on-call rotation until the maintenance team is fully staffed, responding to equipment issues as they arise.
• Actively identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency, and share ideas for process and mechanical improvements.
• Support production teams by responding promptly to breakdowns and minimizing downtime.
• Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and facility guidelines while performing maintenance and installations.
• Use tricycles and other provided equipment to move tools and materials throughout the facility in a safe and organized manner.
• Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, repairs, and modifications to machinery.
• Collaborate with engineering and other departments to implement upgrades and modifications to thermo-bonding, needling, lamination, and die-cut equipment.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of millwright or closely related maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Strong fabrication experience, including cutting, fitting, and assembling metal components.
• Proficiency in welding for maintenance and fabrication tasks.
• Demonstrated experience moving, installing, and setting up machinery.
• High mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand complex equipment and systems.
• Ability to perform both electrical (approximately 60%) and mechanical (approximately 40%) maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Capability to work independently on second shift, making decisions and prioritizing tasks without direct supervision.
• Comfort with participating in a weekend on-call rotation as needed.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose issues in a production environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with engineering and production teams when assistance or coordination is required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with thermo-bonding, needling, lamination, or die-cut equipment is beneficial.
• in supporting automotive or mattress component manufacturing is a plus.
• Ability to generate and share improvement ideas for equipment and processes.
• Familiarity with noise-canceling and thermal nonwoven products used in automotive applications, such as door panels, wheel wells, and under-hood components.
• Comfort working in a facility where dust may impact sensors and electrical components, with an understanding of how to mitigate these issues.

Work Environment

The workplace is not excessively noisy, making it more comfortable for extended shifts. The maintenance team uses tricycles to move tools around the facility, and uniforms are provided. The production environment includes equipment for thermo-bonding, needling, lamination, and die-cutting, supporting the manufacture of nonwoven materials for automotive and mattress applications. The role is primarily on second shift, with training conducted on first shift and participation in a weekend on-call rotation until the team is fully staffed. 

This is a Permanent position based out of Fort Wayne, IN.

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $70720.00/yr.
