Data Engineer

Experience target: 3–5 years (flexible for the right person) About the Role The hiring team is consolidating IT, ERP, analyst, and procurement-analyst functions into a single Business Intelligence group, and this Data Engineer is one of the foundational hires that group is being built around. The current data engineer owns the connections between two ERPs, ADP, and several other systems, plus the dashboards and reports that flow out of them — but the seat needs a level‑up. This role is that level‑up. You’ll inherit a stack that was rebuilt from scratch last year, so it’s clean and easy to get your arms around. From there, the job is to make the plumbing actually trustworthy: tighten the connections between sources of truth, fix the reports the business already runs against, and build out the data foundation that the rest of the new BI team can build models, KPIs, and operational analytics on top of. This is a hands‑on, plant‑adjacent role — four days a week onsite, working directly with operators, procurement, sales, and the rest of the analyst team. The right person is energized by that environment, not allergic to it. Responsibilities Own the data layer connecting two ERPs, ADP, and other operational systems into a single source of truth Maintain, refactor, and extend the existing dashboards and reports the business runs on Replace fragile, ad‑hoc pipelines with durable, documented ones Partner with the business analyst team to expose clean data for KPI and decision‑oriented reporting Identify and close the data quality gaps that currently make some reports untrustworthy Recommend tooling upgrades where the simple stack needs to grow with the business Qualifications 3–5 years building production data pipelines (flexible for a strong candidate with less) Hands‑on experience integrating ERP and HRIS data (ADP, NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar) Comfort across the full stack — ingestion, transformation, modeling, and downstream BI Track record of being the technical owner on a small team — not just one cog in a large data org Willing and able to be onsite at a manufacturing plant 4 days a week in the LA area Preferred Skills Food, CPG, or manufacturing industry exposure Familiarity with LLM‑assisted data work (e.g., generating SQL, summarizing tables, building custom MCP‑style connectors) Experience replacing brittle Excel costing models with proper data pipelines The stack was rebuilt within the last year and is intentionally simple. Specifics will be shared with shortlisted candidates, but expect: two ERPs, ADP, SQL‑based warehouse, BI/dashboarding layer, and a small number of operational SaaS integrations. Closing This is a small, technically lean team inside a manufacturer that's deliberately reshaping itself around data.
