RBM Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary The Mechanical Engineer will design, develop, and test subsystems related to firetrucks. The engineer is responsible for turning ideas for products into functional prototypes and eventual production. The role supports advanced engineering designs, production designs, and issue evaluation and resolution using engineering tools with efficient and affordable processes. The engineer will work cross‑functionally with subsystems engineers, purchasing, production, service, and the sales team. Essential Functions Develop, maintain, and ensure conformance to corporate, customer, and regulatory subsystems specifications and performance requirements of existing products. Initiate and implement integrated hardware and software solutions to meet subsystems performance, improving value by increasing quality and performance or reducing costs. Develop and monitor simulation, lab and field validation and test programs to assure performance. Gather and analyze data to monitor product and component performance. Participate on cross‑functional teams to implement product and process improvements. Understand and apply vehicle regulatory requirements and standards, such as FMVSS, SAE, NFPA, etc., to ensure product designs are compliant. May maintain regulatory agency approvals. Create and manage detail drawings and Bill of Materials. Act as a technical resource to other departments including manufacturing, purchasing, service, and sales & marketing to address and resolve inquiries and problems. Maintain contact with suppliers and purchasing to evaluate new products and support parts quality compliance. Analyze and problem‑solve design, production, and field issues to successful resolution. Develop and implement corrective action in accordance with QMS procedures. Review quality audit records and analyze customer returns to assess product conformance to specifications. Prioritize and manage multiple assignments and objectives, handling unscheduled tasks. Prepare and present project status reports. Perform other duties as required by management to meet the company’s needs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred. 0–3 years of related mechanical engineering experience required. Experience in heavy truck and/or automotive systems preferred. Product data management utilizing CAD and PDM systems preferred. SolidWorks experience preferred. Understanding of manufacturing processes for efficient assembly and serviceability preferred. Knowledge of firefighting processes and equipment preferred. Ability to find, read, and interpret relevant scientific and technical documentation and standards. Ability to actively participate in engineering discussions by listening, asking relevant questions, and suggesting solutions. Ability to follow written and verbal directions and communicate new information that could affect project trajectories. Basic math functions and accounting abilities with high aptitude for accuracy. Intermediate PC skills, including spreadsheet use. Can work within SolidWorks or CAD. Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of variables in non‑standard situations. Strong attention to detail. Ability to understand and apply an engineering development process. Ability to prioritize work and multitask while adhering to deadlines. Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment. Ability to follow all safety policies to promote a safe working environment for all. Valid driver’s license. May need to travel for local, overnight, or prolonged periods for tradeshows, meetings, or company events. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends occasionally; overtime as needed.
