As a trusted healthcare professional, you'll use your clinical expertise, judgment, and compassion to deliver high-quality care while advancing the mission of Duke Student Health.What You'll DoDeliver compassionate triage & student careAssess, prioritize, and address student health concerns through in-person and telephone encountersUtilize clinical judgment to determine patient needs and appropriate levels of careCoordinate appointments based on acuity and healthcare needsDocument assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately within the electronic medical recordProvide health education and empower students to make informed healthcare decisionsConnect students with campus and community resources, including wellness and specialty servicesCollaborate with clinicians and interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure exceptional patient outcomesSupport international travel health programsProvide nursing care and consultation services for students, faculty, and university-sponsored travel groupsAssess travel itineraries to determine vaccination and preventive healthcare needsRecommend and administer travel-related vaccines according to established protocolsEducate travelers regarding destination-specific health risks and preventive measures, including: Malaria prevention Traveler's diarrhea prevention and treatment Altitude sickness awareness HIV post-exposure prophylaxis Travel safety best practicesDocument care and consultations within the electronic medical recordPromote campus health through immunization compliancePartner with Student Health colleagues to review and process incoming student immunization records and tuberculosis screening documentationCommunicate compliance requirements and next steps to studentsAdminister vaccines according to standing orders and clinical protocolsMonitor and document vaccine administration and adverse reactionsSupport university public health initiatives and regulatory compliance effortsProvide allergy desensitization servicesDeliver allergy immunotherapy care in partnership with students' home allergistsReview and interpret treatment orders and protocolsCoordinate communication with external providers when clarification or treatment modifications are neededAdminister allergy injections and adjust dosing according to physician instructions and patient responsesMonitor patients for reactions and ensure safe treatment deliverySupport clinical excellence & team developmentAssist with onboarding and mentoring nursing staffPromote effective utilization of clinical resources and equipmentSupport infection prevention and patient safety practicesParticipate in competency development, continuing education, and departmental training initiativesContribute to a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and service excellenceContribute beyond the roleParticipate in projects, initiatives, and departmental activities that advance the mission of Duke Student Health and Duke UniversitySupport evolving organizational priorities and student health needsWhat We're Looking ForRequired QualificationsEducation Graduation from an accredited: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program, or Nursing Diploma program.Current North Carolina Registered Nurse licensure.Nurses without a BSN (or higher nursing degree) must enroll in an approved BSN program within two years of hire and complete the degree within five years of hire.Experience Minimum of one year of professional nursing experience. Experience in college health, student health, ambulatory care, or outpatient settings preferred. Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $29.34 to USD $43.01.
