About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our healthcare team in a correctional setting. The LVN plays an important role in delivering safe, quality patient care by assisting with assessment, data collection, treatment implementation, patient education, and ongoing care coordination.

In this role, you will work directly with patients and collaborate closely with registered nurses, physicians, psychiatric providers, and other healthcare professionals. Responsibilities include administering medications, obtaining and documenting vital signs, conducting chart reviews, supporting psychiatric care, and providing services based on each patient’s treatment plan.

The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a structured environment, and committed to maintaining patient safety, confidentiality, and dignity.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Experience

  • One (1) or more years of clinical experience preferred
  • Previous correctional healthcare experience preferred

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the state of employment
  • Current CPR certification required

What You Will Do

  • Assist with the assessment and collection of data related to the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients in a correctional healthcare setting.
  • Assist with developing and implementing individualized treatment plans in collaboration with RNs, physicians, psychiatric providers, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs and provide relevant information to psychiatric providers.
  • Conduct patient chart reviews and collaborate with psychiatric prescribers regarding patient care needs, treatment, and services.
  • Provide restoration-of-competency services in both group and individual settings in accordance with the patient’s treatment plan.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately according to healthcare provider orders, established protocols, and demonstrated competencies.
  • Apply appropriate pharmacy knowledge when administering medications, including awareness of potential drug reactions, interactions, and overdose risks.
  • Obtain diagnostic tests and body-fluid specimens in accordance with healthcare provider orders and established protocols.
  • Implement clinical and technical aspects of patient care according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures, infection-control practices, and standard precautions.
  • Communicate patient information effectively with nursing staff, physicians, healthcare supervisors, psychiatric providers, ancillary departments, and other appropriate personnel.
  • Follow established referral processes when coordinating care with ancillary departments.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and complete required records, logs, and reports.
  • Count controlled substances, syringes, needles, and sharps with another staff member at the beginning of each shift and complete required count documentation.
  • Provide patient education and support activities that are consistent with the LVN’s education, demonstrated competencies, and applicable Nursing Practice Act requirements.
  • Work within established policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines and seek appropriate supervision when needed.
  • Maintain a safe, professional, and respectful environment while providing care to patients in a correctional setting.
