The Curtis Firm, LLC is seeking an experienced paralegal to join our Tacoma office. Our practice focuses primarily on criminal defense , ranging from misdemeanors and DUI matters to serious felony cases, with a smaller personal injury practice.

We are a small litigation firm looking for someone who is independent, proactive, organized, and willing to take challenges head-on . This is not a position for someone who simply waits for assignments. We want a paralegal who takes ownership of files, knows what is happening with assigned cases, anticipates deadlines and needs, and helps move cases forward.

• Manage criminal files from intake through resolution or trial.
• Maintain a working knowledge of assigned cases, upcoming hearings, deadlines, discovery, and outstanding issues.
• Obtain, organize, review, and manage discovery, including police reports, body-camera footage, photographs, video, medical records, and digital evidence.
• Draft motions, declarations, subpoenas, correspondence, proposed orders, and other pleadings for attorney review.
• Calendar and monitor court dates, filing deadlines, hearings, and trial dates.
• Communicate regularly and professionally with clients, courts, prosecutors, opposing counsel, experts, providers, and other parties.
• Assist with trial preparation, exhibits, witnesses, trial notebooks, subpoenas, and courtroom support.
• Assist with personal injury files, including medical records, bills, damages documentation, insurance communications, and demand preparation.
• Assist with general office responsibilities when needed, including answering client and prospective-client calls.

We prefer candidates with 3 years of experience in criminal defense, prosecution, or other criminal litigation .

The ideal candidate will have:

• Working knowledge of Washington Superior, District, and Municipal Courts.
• Familiarity with Pierce and King County courts and procedures.
• Strong motion drafting, writing, proofreading, and organizational skills.
• Experience managing substantial criminal discovery.
• Experience preparing cases for hearings and jury trials.
• Strong client communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and competing deadlines with limited supervision.
• Sound judgment about when to act independently and when attorney involvement is necessary.
• Personal injury experience is helpful but not required.

Above all, we are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work . If discovery is missing, a deadline is approaching, a client needs attention, or a case needs preparation, we want a paralegal who recognizes the issue and acts on it rather than waiting to be told.

This is a full-time, in-person position at our Tacoma office at 705 S. 9th Street, Suite 101, Tacoma, WA 98405 . Occasional attendance at court proceedings and trials may be required.

Salary: $55,000–$75,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
