Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). This high-acuity unit focuses on the care of medically complex and critically ill patients who require specialized attention and treatment.
Job Details
- Start Date: ASAP
- Shift: 3x12 Days (06:30 - 19:00)
- Guaranteed Hours: 60 hours per 2-week period
- Floating: Potential to float to telemetry units as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Yes
- First-Time Travelers Accepted: Yes, with at least 2 years of experience
Unit Information
The MICU specializes in treating critically ill patients with various conditions, including:
- Respiratory failure requiring noninvasive or mechanical ventilation
- Post-central venous line placement
- Cardiac arrest with targeted temperature management (TTM)
- Multisystem organ failure and shock states
- CVA post-thrombolysis (TPA)
- COVID-19, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), and Alcohol Withdrawal
We maintain a staff-to-patient ratio of 2:1, which may increase to 4:1 under special circumstances, such as when patients await transfer to inpatient units. The unit is fast-paced, and some common procedures include:
- Bedside central and arterial line placements
- Chest tube placements
- Rapid sequence intubation
- Paracentesis and thoracentesis
- Code blue situations
Each shift is supported by one Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to assist with patient care.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Work Environment
This role is located within a Level II Trauma Center, featuring a total of 571 staffed beds. The environment is collaborative and geared toward high-quality patient care.
