Registered Nurse Operating Room

Job Summary:


The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) provides specialized perioperative nursing care in both the Main Operating Room and Outpatient Surgery Center of an acute care hospital. This role involves preparing patients for surgery, assisting during procedures, monitoring patient status, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. The OR RN must collaborate with surgical teams, participate in an on-call rotation, and maintain compliance with hospital standards. A minimum of 2 years of relevant surgical nursing experience and active RN licensure are required.

Responsibilities:

• Provide perioperative nursing care in Main OR and Outpatient Surgery Center.
• Float between Main OR and Outpatient Surgery Center as needed.
• Participate in on-call rotation, sharing approximately 70-90 hours every 6 weeks.
• Work scheduled weekends and holidays, at least every other weekend.
• Adhere to hospital protocols, safety standards, and infection control policies.
• Wear provided scrubs while working in the OR environment.
• Document patient care and charting using Epic electronic medical record system.
• Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary surgical team.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment (pending licenses not accepted).
• Minimum 2 years nursing experience with at least 3 years preferred in surgical or perioperative nursing.
• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required.
• Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system highly preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
• Experience with a wide variety of surgical procedures and perioperative nursing practices.

Special Considerations:

• Participation in weekend and holiday call rotations is mandatory.
• On-call shifts approximate 70-90 hours per 6-week period, shared equally among team members.
• Requests for schedule changes due to outside employment are not accommodated.
• Requested Time Off (RTO) must be submitted at time of application.
• Local candidates within a 50-mile radius preferred; local pay rates may apply.
• Facility may call off staff once per two-week pay period despite guaranteed hours.
• Scrubs are provided and must be worn in the OR.

Scheduling:

• Shift hours include weekend and holiday call from 07:00 to 07:00 (24-hour coverage).
• Block scheduling is assigned at the manager's discretion.
• Guaranteed hours with occasional call-offs as described.
