Job Description Job Description Directional Driller – Lead Underground Electrical Utility Bore Operations Job Overview Company: B&B Electric Salary/Pay Rate: $76.59 per hour for the 2026 season plus annual performance-based bonuses Location: Fairbanks, AK (Onsite) Job/Employment Type: Full Time Schedule: 60 - 84 hours per week during the summer construction season (June – October) Project Scope: Underground electrical utility installation Mandatory Licences & Certifications: None Required The Opportunity You will serve as a skilled equipment operator, executing precise horizontal directional drilling to build Alaska's critical infrastructure. This role provides the autonomy to manage complex bores in challenging ground conditions while working within a supportive, close-knit team. You will have the opportunity to expand your technical expertise on large-scale utility projects that value individual accountability. How You Will Make an Impact Operate Vermeer 23x30 horizontal directional drilling equipment to install critical underground electrical conduit. Execute accurate pilot bores, reaming operations, and product pullbacks in varying ground conditions. Interpret utility locates, bore plans, and technical drawings to map out safe drilling paths. Guide locator personnel and ground crews safely to maintain proper bore depth and alignment. Perform daily equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor field repairs on drilling rigs. Track drilling fluids, tooling tracking, and jobsite materials to ensure continuous project operations. Document daily drilling progress, utility conflicts, and site safety compliance for project supervisors. Required Qualifications & Experience Proven experience operating horizontal directional drilling equipment on active construction sites. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and cross-reference utility locates and construction blueprints. Strong mechanical aptitude required for troubleshooting equipment issues and adjusting drilling fluid mixes. Resilience to work extended hours outdoors under demanding environmental and geographical conditions. Excellent teamwork and communication skills necessary to coordinate high-risk underground operations. Preferred Qualifications & Experience Prior experience specialized in underground electrical utility installation or civil utility construction. Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for transporting heavy machinery and support trailers. Experience operating Vermeer 23x30 drilling rigs or comparable tracking and steering systems. Compensation & Benefits High-hourly scale of $76.59 per hour for the 2026 season. Weekly pay cycle with eligibility for annual performance-based bonuses.
