Flight Test Aviation Safety Official – Air Dominance (Lead or Senior) Company: The Boeing Company Location: San Antonio, TX Overview The Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) Flight Test Safety Engineering – Military Programs team seeks a Flight Test Aviation Safety Official to support Next Generation Air Dominance programs and other military flight test programs. The role entails operational safety oversight, incident investigation, and risk mitigation in a fast‑paced development and test environment. Position Responsibilities Collaborate across program disciplines to promote mishap prevention. Develop and manage safety requirements early in the design lifecycle, emphasizing test operations. Lead safety engineering activities for ground and flight test/launch preparation, including Flight Test Plans (FTPs) with Test Hazard Analyses (THAs) and mitigation plans. Participate in ground and flight/mission assurance readiness reviews (FTMARRs). Perform Safety Risk Management (SRM) activities and lead Safety Action Groups (SAGs). Interface with Safety data analysts, QA, and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) counterparts. Provide pre‑test briefs, debriefs, after‑action reviews and develop pre‑mishap plans and notification procedures. Evaluate customer/operational needs and specifications to develop safety requirements and operating limits. Review engineering design specifications, change proposals, deficiency reports, and deviation/waiver requests for flight‑test safety impacts. Conduct periodic safety assessments per DCMA 8210 and Enterprise SMS. Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, corrective actions, and aircraft impound investigations. Interface with customers and program SMEs. Prepare presentations, analyses, and reports for government/customer safety boards, design reviews, and mission readiness reviews. Deliver oral and written presentations to peers, management, senior leadership, and regulatory agencies. Basic Qualifications (Required) Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance and U.S. citizenship; clearance must be active in the past 24 months. Ability to obtain program access (U.S. Government requires U.S. citizenship). 3+ years of experience in test hazard or risk identification and mitigation plans. 5+ years of relevant technical experience in aviation safety, systems safety analysis, safety management, ground or flight test, or test hazard analysis in a commercial and/or military environment. Capability to support and travel to Edwards AFB, CA, and other locations up to 15% of the time. Preferred Qualifications (Desired) 10+ years of related work experience (Level 5) or equivalent education/experience. Existing Special Access Program (SAP) clearance in Air Dominance. 7+ years of flight and/or ground test experience. Prior experience as Test Conductor (TC) or Test Director (TD), Aviation Safety Officer (ASO), or Aviation Safety Investigator (ASI). Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of DCMA Instruction 8210.1, contractor flight and ground operations. Training in Safety Management Systems (ICAO Annex 19, FAA 14 CFR Part 5, AC 120‑92D). Experience with aircraft systems, flight test operations, test safety, aviation safety programs, and mishap investigations. Experience in accident and incident investigations, root‑cause corrective action training. Experience with system safety engineering (MIL‑STD‑882, ARP4761, DO‑178B/254). Experience with manned aircraft in air dominance, phantom works, flight test beds, or weapons systems. Benefits & Compensation Competitive base pay and variable compensation. Pay ranges: Lead level – $126,650 to $171,350; Senior level – $154,700 to $209,300. Additional Information Location: San Antonio, TX – 100% onsite. The position is open to both Lead and Senior levels. This role is not contingent upon program award.
