Research Associate

The School of Nursing is looking to hire five (5) full-time Research Associates to work for a study (pending NIH funding) testing the impact of a sleep intervention with adolescents in NYC high schools. Most of the duties will occur in-person at the office or high schools in and around NYC, including the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens, requiring travel between/to these sites; occasional night/weekend work is required to follow-up with study participants and/or complete participant interviews. A Bachelor's degree is required. We are looking for individuals with a background in psychology, public health, nursing or other related fields. Experience working with youth is required. This experience will ideally include facilitating groups or working one-on-one with adolescents.

Specific tasks for this position entail:

  • Screening and recruiting adolescents and their caregivers
  • Delivering intervention group sessions with adolescents
  • Interviewing students in person and/or by phone or Zoom, and their caregivers by phone or Zoom;
  • Conducting literature searches;
  • Photocopying study materials;
  • Entering data, and
  • Other tasks as needed.

Opportunities to assist on manuscripts and presentations/posters are also available.

This is a grant funded position and continued employment is contingent upon the grant.

We anticipate a June start date.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents required - Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to present information to groups of adolescents (i.e., make classroom presentations)
  • Must be able to travel between Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx, which may expand to other boroughs
  • Ability to work in the schools during the high school day, which is typically 8 – 3
  • Ability to work some nights/weekends to follow up with adolescents and/or interview parents

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, public health, or related field
  • Ability to make a 2-year commitment
  • Prior research experience is a plus - Bilingual (English/Spanish)
