Custodial Supervisor - Commons Building

Pay Rate: $16.00/hr Schedule: 40 hours, Monday to Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM

SUMMARY

This position will perform supervisory janitorial work, including supervising, directing, and participating in the work of subordinate custodial personnel. The Supervisor will be on‑call to ensure continual improvement of operations and must possess superior customer service skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs all assigned tasks professionally to reflect the highest integrity of the Custodial Services Department. Reports to the Building Representative and is responsible for the component performance for all custodial work. Conducts sufficient daily routine inspections as deemed necessary to ensure work is performed as specified and takes immediate corrective action when required. Provides professional training on the night shift to direct cleaning activities of custodial staff, including MSDS of all products and hazardous substances present in janitor closets or building storage. Assists in development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and work standards. Offers leadership and guidance to departmental personnel. Maintains proficiency in all techniques and equipment used by custodial staff. Recommends changes in supplies, equipment, or procedures to improve safety or reduce costs. Maintains a good working relationship with other departments. Supervises and keeps close communication with the Lead and the rest of the custodial staff. Provides ongoing technical and chemical training to all custodial staff. Investigates incidents and reports all unusual occurrences to management. Ensures all equipment is tested regularly. Schedules personnel for proper coverage of custodial services. Maintains good working relationships with clients and building occupants. Works with management support staff and clients daily to review performance and discuss improvements. Ensures staff are dressed in proper uniform attire. Issues verbal reprimands and recommends disciplinary action when necessary. Inspects building and grounds to ensure clean and safe conditions. Evaluates the need for minor equipment repairs; performs and supervises repairs. Completes weekly inspections. At shift end, ensures equipment is cleaned and ready for use, including cleaning materials. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED. 2 years of janitorial/cleaning experience. 2 years of supervisory experience. 1 or more years as a floor technician with experience on all types of floor surfaces.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of proper cleaning or polishing agents for various surfaces, including metals, woodwork floors, and floor coverings. Knowledge of safety ordinances and regulations. Knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment; able to instruct others in their use. Ability to understand documents such as scope of work and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
