A well-established, family-owned commercial real estate owner/operator is seeking a Building Engineer to support a portfolio of commercial office properties on Chicago's North Side. They are known for their stability, hands-on management approach, and long-term ownership philosophy. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of day-to-day building operations while working closely with property management, tenants, vendors, and leading maintenance staff.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee maintenance operations for a portfolio of commercial office buildings
• Manage preventative maintenance programs and building systems
• Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs involving HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
• Supervise and support maintenance technicians
• Coordinate with vendors and contractors
• Respond to tenant service requests and help maintain a high level of tenant satisfaction
• Participate in an on-call rotation and assist with emergency response when needed
• Support seasonal exterior maintenance activities, including snow removal

Minimum Requirements:

• 2+ years of building engineering or facilities maintenance experience supporting commercial office buildings
• Strong HVAC, electrical, and plumbing knowledge
• Experience supervising maintenance personnel
• Ability to manage multiple properties and competing priorities
• Strong communication and customer service skills

HVAC certification is welcomed but not required
