Surgical Technologist (Part-Time with Full-Time Growth Potential)

Location: Bloomfield Hills, MI
Facility: Landmark Surgery Center

About Us

Landmark Surgery Center is a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center featuring three fully equipped operating rooms. We are seeking a highly motivated Surgical Technologist to join our team on a part-time basis, with the potential to transition into a full-time position as our surgical volume continues to expand.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Surgical Technologist seeking a flexible schedule while becoming part of a collaborative, patient-focused surgical team.

Schedule

• Part-time position to start
• Flexible scheduling based on surgical volume and availability
• Opportunity to increase hours over time
• Potential for up to 40 hours per week in the future

Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in supporting surgeons, anesthesia providers, and nursing staff by maintaining sterile technique, preparing operating rooms, assisting during surgical procedures, managing instruments and supplies, and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and surgical excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Operating Room Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sterile fields for surgical procedures.
• Perform surgical scrub and sterile gowning/gloving techniques.
• Set up operating rooms, sterile back tables, and Mayo stands with appropriate instruments, equipment, medications, and supplies.
• Serve as scrub person for a variety of surgical procedures.
• Anticipate surgeons' needs during procedures and efficiently pass instruments, sutures, supplies, and medications.
• Assist with patient positioning, draping, dressing application, suctioning, retracting, and specimen handling.
• Perform instrument, sponge, and sharps counts with the circulating nurse.
• Monitor sterile technique and immediately address contamination concerns.
• Assist with room turnover and preparation between surgical cases.

Sterile Processing & Equipment Management

• Clean, assemble, inspect, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
• Operate sterilization equipment according to established protocols.
• Troubleshoot and report malfunctioning instruments or equipment.
• Assist with decontamination and infection control procedures.

Inventory & Supply Management

• Maintain appropriate inventory levels throughout the facility.
• Restock operating rooms, procedure rooms, and storage areas.
• Order supplies and coordinate returns with vendors and distributors.
• Compare pricing and assist with purchasing decisions.
• Coordinate meetings and demonstrations with vendor representatives.
• Monitor supply usage and communicate inventory needs to management.

Facility Support

• Assist with maintaining operating room readiness.
• Support accreditation and regulatory compliance efforts.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Surgical Technologist certification required.
• Prior operating room experience required.
• Ambulatory surgery center experience preferred.
• Sterile processing experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical instrumentation.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Current BLS/CPR certification required.
• Current ACLS certification required.
