Staff Accountant

This is a non-state service X-16 position. This position is for a staff accountant in our Water and Wastewater Division. The Mississippi Public Utilities Staff seeks an accountant to support the Division Director in reviewing public utility filings and rate case filings. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business and thorough understanding of financial statements and audit functions are required. Prior accounting experience strongly preferred. The Public Utility Staff is only interviewing accountants for this position. Two years full time work experience is required, but the experience does not have to be in accounting.

What you'll need to be successful:

• Ability to perform work in Excel.
• Ability to verify accounting entries by source documents.

Preferred qualifications:

• Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2-5 years of experience.
• Agency preferred qualifications: Accounting degree and experience, preferably 3+ years audit experience. Experience verifying accounting entries by source documents. Prior water and wastewater experience is a bonus.
